Idr the exact numbers, but he won around 50 tournaments. Next closest professional? Orcollo, around 20. I love Efren, such a sensational player. Changed the game with his kicking. @@richardcerritelli9657 You can't quantify how good a gambler was. For pool, we can only base it on tournaments won, and their skills on the table. Due to the era, SVB has way more videos to compare than Buddy. Those facts alone, Buddy isn't in the conversation. But let's talk skills. If you're talking gambling on a 7ft table, Shane is the king of the 7 footer. So it's a 9ft table then. Shane's break alone, he'd have to give Buddy a spot. Enough said right there. But then you add his jumping ability, and sheer offensive firepower, it's not close. You say Buddy is better at gambling. Is there anything else he's better at than Shane? I say no. It's not all that meaningful to compare athletes across generations but I can't help think of Bata vs. SVB. Bata grew up dirt poor in a third world country where he had to drop out of school to go to work. Slept on pool tables at night at his uncle's hall to supplement his family's earnings. Hustled and gambled and honed his craft mostly on his own. He went on to become one of the GOATs of the game, and inspired many of his countrymen to take up the sport. And inspired and awed many across the world. SVB didn't exactly come off a royal blood line but he at least grew up well in the US and must have had access to good coaches, leagues and tournaments and a whole pool ecosystem as he grew up which helped him get better and better with time. He's now one of the GOATs of the game. I feel Efren's game is different because of the artistry and magic he brought to his game. His precision kicks and banks made my jaw drop open back in the 90s when I first saw him on ESPN. SVB, OTOH, is very precise and calculated and almost mathematical. His shots don't always seem to show the artistry and creativity that Efren brought to the sport. Each a great, awe inspiring, and inspiring player in his own way! A nice tribute to SVB. As always, thanks for all your contributions towards the sport in your own way!

Efren is the greatest all around player, but I don't think he is the best eight ball, nine ball, or 10 ball player. But when you factor in all of the major games Efren is clearly the best. I think guys like SVB are a slight bit better than Efren was at nine ball. Both Efren and SVB are great ambassadors for the sport. I have met Efren numerous times in the Philippines and he is about as humble as a human can be.

At 11:16: ‘winning his second World Championship…’, hasn’t SVB only won the one World title, with the World Nine-ball last year? If you’re referring to his first title being the Dragon ‘World 14.1 Championship’ in 2019, whilst billed as a ‘World Championship’, it wasn’t sanctioned by the WPA, which ultimately lead to the demise of the tournament the year after Shane won it; the WPA threatened to revoke participants from renewing their player licenses for 2021, which proved effective, but led to the 2020 event’s cancellation, and it hasn’t resurfaced since. Having said that, just because it wasn’t a WPA-sanctioned event, unlike every other World Championship event, it doesn’t hinder Shane’s ability as a player, he’s incredible to watch, and very much a worthy world champion. It’s only a slight disagreement as to how many world titles he has to his name.

@@cakins1986 Whilst you are correct in that it wasn’t sanctioned by the WPA, that event wasn’t specifically billed a ‘World Championship’, rather an ‘International Championship’, a name which the WPA would leave alone; look at the name of the series of tournaments at the ‘International Open’, for instance. However, it does appear that the WPA caught onto the absence of an official ‘World Championship’ tournament, which the International Championship effectively held the place of at the time, fairly quickly, establishing the World Ten-ball Championship the following year.
