@atMayorga did have a problem dealing with Forrest in the second fight, he still won by points but it was a hard-fought, competitive fight. Forrest having a bad style-match up against Mayorga is not a huge knock against him. Iran Barkley twice knocked out Tommy Hearns but he was still a beast and hugely popular, Forrest's resume is not on the level of Hearns but he was still very formidable.

People need to understand that at this point in time, Shane Mosley was essentially on top of the boxing world. He had already beat prime Oscar De La Hoya and was the top dog in his division. For him to give a chance to a guy like Vernon Forrest who was obviously a very good to great prime, hungry fighter with a style that was all bad for Mosley, says a lot about the guts Mosley had and how guys back then (As opposed to most top fighters today) were not ducking each other, talking about “It don’t make business sense” “it ain’t about the belts” “you on the other side of the street” etc. blah blah. Mosley didn’t duck Forrest when he could’ve had every excuse to. It was just Forrest’s night.

Shane's had the same problem his whole career which is why he lost this fight. Mosley is a natural boxer with incredible speed but has the heart and chin of a brawler. Here instead of boxing and protecting himself hed rather brawl it out with Forrester who has much more power than Shane but doesn't have Shane's speed. Everyone knows if you hit Shane he's gonna hit you back. Forrester simply took what Shane gave him

Indeed. He was extremely cleaver also. His head never really reset properly after the knockdown in the second. Yet he was able to think clearly enough to keep the distance close, so that he wasn't on the end of Vernon's punishing power. That lunging towards Vernon was a cleaver gimmick to allow Vernon to tie him up, giving him chance to survive this fight. Vernon had him where he wanted, but couldn't knock his feet out from under him and was wary of getting in trouble himself

Vernon was in Shanes head before this fight, I remember back then. The same way that other fighter was in Vernons head before they fought Mayorga. Sometimes a fighter has your number. They were all warriors and was not ducking each other either. Mayweather is my man and all, but he mentioned folks ducking him long ago. I think fighters was not checking for him, he wasnt even their size to be honest, they didnt fear his knockout power or anything and they all loss before so they wasnt protecting their undefeated stats. Mayweather might have been lucky that a lot of guys didnt take him up on his talk back then.

Ok, I remember being in Vegas that weekend for a wedding. Championship Sunday was the next day as Drew Bledsoe came in for a banged up Tom Brady n led the Pats to SB win #1. The tuck rule game was 2 weeks prior to this, so it marked the beginning of the curse on the Raiders, setting off 2 decades of forgettable football by the Silver & Black. Since the wedding & reception was Saturday, I missed this fight. As i walked into the sportsbook, I was shocked when i saw Vernon doing the post fight interview at ringside, saying how his jab nullified the speed of Shane. Now I am watching this for the first time and Vernon took it to Sugar who, to me at the time, seemed unbeatable as a pro. And VF did it twice....I really miss boxing, and the Raiders being relevant......Vernon Forrest...champ.....RIP, warrior!!!!

I give credit to Mosely getting up and finishing that fight, he took tremendous punches from Forrest. the jabs from Forrest took Mosely out of his game plan and he didn't have plan B. I didn't approve Mosely Sr coaching him though, he seemed unqualified and gave poor advice . at a gas station a dude robbed Forrest his wallet at gun point but made the mistake of chasing the robber and got shot. Mosely had trouble with highly technical boxers like Winky Wright(2x) , and Canelo too. he's The only boxer to almost knock the snot out of Mayweather so kudo's to him for that. glad to see Mosely is out of the game and he is still lucid and his son is a fine boxer from what I have seen.

Mosley fought everybody. Well back in these days, everyone fought everyone for the most part. But whenever Mosley had issues beating someone, he kept losing to them. This fight probably should have been over in the 2nd round. Mosley took a lot of punishment

@@LuisHernandez-oj5bm well everybody wanted Margarito after he gave Cotto the beat down because it gave him big money superstar status. Mosley- Margarito was the biggest money fight that could be made at Welterweight. Pacquiao had gone down to 140 for Hatton and said he planned to stay there. As far as money went Mosley and Margarito really had nowhere else to look for money except Cotto and themselves. That fight had to happen.

@@austinlittke5580 I honestly dont think he gave Mayweather much thought. Because nobody in those days thought that mayweather could Knockout Mosley. I think Mosley was focused on other fighters his size or bigger than him. Would have been an interesting fight way back, but I guess it is what it is. Mosely still had a good career. He didnt duck anyone, and fought folks 10 times more dangerous than Mayweather. When he fought them. He fought them in their primes. Mosely did.

I was watching Shane vs Winky wright today Vernon Forrest they both had his number in his prime but you know so what he didn't duck anybody and literally was always looking for the toughest competition to compete against and in his prime he was 38-0 35 by knockout at 135 .. you really got to put Shane in the conversation for greatest lightweight sure when he moved up to welterweight he won some lost some but the man fought everyone... I don't know why but I'm thinking about Mayweather saying he look like Shrek in his green suit at the prese conference anybody else remember that lmfao
