Man I wish I could have worked alongside these guys. I was 7 or 8 during that time, I went on to get my mining certifications of Ky Foreman and Ky Met and neither is worth the plastic they are printed on now due to the current economic situation in mining and industry due to companies not willing to sell their coal for less and the current president's thinking about coal. We are most defanantly are a dying breed of men that will forever remember how good mining was to us and our families. Adam

LONGWALLERS. These guys pump out the most coal. They are truly unique. A lot of people are scared to be around a Longwall.

I'm a Brit, I started in 1967, we had single ended ranging drum shearers, which cut and ploughed back. I wonder what make the machine, maybe British, Anderson Boyes, shield supports could be British too, but sadly our coal mining has ended along with all the machinery we used to make.

Did you find Anderson shearers to be the best or just average?

Looks like the electrical inspections have not been done for a while. Very rusty cap screws on the enclosures

After a panel was finished, you pull the shear and the pan line. Then start in the middle of the shield line pulling shields evenly one by one to the head and the tail. If you were lucky you got them all before the mountain set down. If one got hung up, you stripped it of everything salvageable and left it, and moved on to the next shield to be moved.
