Trembling means we know we don’t have the ability in self to do it and we know we need His help. “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” It could also mean WALKING AND falling before GOD as helpless knowing he must do it. Grace is God does for me. Striving won’t help anyone in the wake of grace. Just keep you under the law which means striving. Grace = rest. We all strive until we learn to trust. It’s a waste of life to strive. We aren’t even to sweat anymore. “My yoke is easy and my burden is light” The entry into the kingdom is to cease from Thine own striving. It’s the first command. REPENT from self striving to serve the living God

I'm thoroughly convicted by this sermon. I have many idols to smash instead of keeping and secretly loving. I pray that the Lord makes me the real thing, instead of a false convert merely seeking Him because of the lions!

Yes the first 20 seconds of this was very convicting for me and I think explains the attitude and behavior of millions of Christians today who willfully and habitually sin planning their send ahead of time with the expectation it's all covered by Grace so it doesn't matter, without realizing they have no idea what the consequences are going to be and how long it will be before they manifest, and then they groan with regret, or blame God that the Harvest they planted is now being reaped

This message should be listened to by every professing Christian. Very thought provoking. Spurgeon is still saving souls with his preaching.

Over a hundred years ago these words were first spoken to a congregation. You would be hard pressed to hear a soft mention of this in any modern church, let alone this hard truth expounded with such depth and clarity. We live in an age that likes to throw around the word "meta," and this ages-old sermon is a beautiful treatment of the nature of faith, as opposed to items on a doctrinal list, often short, of a credo one ought to give assent. Most understand that one can believe authentically in what is false, but do they also know that believing falsely in what is Truth also leads to condemnation? There is no fear and trembling in our churches.

Amen to the fear of God ,as that verse I just shared with my grown daughter that that Needs to be shared and I did then. One of her kids was screaming at her mom and sister , then I asked her if that was kind and she Said it was mean of her to have done that . That’s the beginning of repenting of our sins to turn from Them ! I and my husband have to talk to her about being born again as Jesus requires and shall Only happen When Our Father draws his children to Come to him. , --( I got real blessed last night and a scripture should be an added gem to this Word;’ ; Come- Revelation 22: 17; -“ And the Spirit and the bride Say , Come . Jesus tells us that no man comes to him (to Jesus) unless God, the Father, draws him. I sought God only in remorse and when I needed Him because my heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. When God chose to convict me, He stripped me naked of my excuses for my sins and He clothed me with His mercy and love. He gifted me His faith and drew this repentant sinner to the feet of His SON. Jesus accepted me and since then God circumcises my heart daily and the hearts of my children that we may love Him with all our hearts and souls. I pray one prayer: the one that Jesus taught us. I thank him every moment for His mercy.

Amen. I was a false convert for many years before I came to Christ.

Thank you so much for this, I needed to hear the message. I see this phenomenon in many believers. We have to remember that even the demons ‘believe’. We are to workout our salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who is working in us to do of His good pleasure. My own salvation started just like these folks. It was just “fire insurance “. Their was lion insurance. However I have a praying Mom. ❤ I got my fire insurance when I was five or 6 years old. The seed was planted. However true repentance was much later, in my late twenties. This process continues even today asHe reveals Himself and also shows me what I really am. 😞 I now have began to love my Creator. Psalms 19:9 “The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever.’

Some people claim we don't have freewill. And I never like the comment...he or she has a free spirit. But, I Corinthians 6:19-29 tells us we are bought at a very high price. Although many w/ strong wills may be able to throw off temptation by their own will, yet human will is not consistently strong. Our sinful condition is a consistently strong force, Satan is a consistently strong force, & so is the Holy Spirit. Our will on the side of the Holy Spirit is a constant force. Thus we're admonished to abide in the word (dwell, remain) John 15. We have the choice/s (free will) to remain or not by faith.

Well...our first choice should be to give our life to Jesus Christ and like you said, prompted by the Holy Spirit. What a God we serve excepting the bad against us or the good (blessing) He bestows on us. The world would say, do you feel it? The Power of love. But, we are persuaded with His agape love..

One faith, two functions. The first is trust in Christ’s sacrifice, which is essential for spiritual life. This is immediate upon hearing and believing the Word. The second function is living according to the gospel by obeying God. It is dependent on the first because BOTH require that one take God at his Word and because it’s impossible to please God without believing the first function: that you are forgiven and made alive by grace. If you believe that God is telling the truth about sin bringing death and Jesus brinigng life, then it follows that you must also believe God about living the Christian life; that is, avoiding sin because you know it brings death and seeking Christ, who brings life, daily. This is a gradual process that is constantly informed by the first function of faith. In summary, the first function of faith is justification, the second is sanctification, and the two are united as one faith because they both require that the believer takes God at his Word, first about salvation and therefore also about life, or else the believer calls God a liar by denying either first or second. So grace and works aren’t opposed to each other. They’re tiered. Works come under grace but they’re BOTH turned by the same gear which is believing what God says.

This is challenging and so relevant today and for me. How we need preachers like Spurgeon today. 🙏

I remember he preached a sermon on the sovereignty of God on predestination and election so eloquently And he said if I had something and I offered to everybody and everyone refused, then I came back and gave it to who I want to what wrong have I done. Salvation is what God is offering in Jesus Christ.

Amazing that we have to go back to this in order to get good bible teaching. What an amazing and wise instruction.

Reading the comments, it’s easy to see why there are over 200 denominations alone in the United States and thousands world wide. It’s so clear to see why the “doctrines of the Bible” according to each of these denominations is SO MUDDY.

When you are born again by the grace of God through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ - Jesus baptizes you with the Holy spirit at the moment of conversion. God the Father simultaneously adopts us as one of His children. But there is one other thing that happens, that so many Christians forget or are ignorant of - you are enlisted into the army of the LORD. Every Christian is technically a soldier enlisted by God. Though we cannot see it, be sure that Satan and his devils can spot you from a mile away. I suspect if the Lord opened our eyes we would see each other wearing pieces of armor - though most of us might be poorly geared due to not fighting against sin as we should. Every day I think about my sin. At times I agonize over it. I have not gotten the victory over my sins. The lust of my eyes and flesh in this present age we live in tempts me obscenely. When you are born again you are not supernaturally inoculated from sin or sinning. Paul said that if we say we have no sin that we are liars. EVERY Christian sins - daily. EVERY Christian. If you say otherwise you are deceiving yourself and are self-righteous. I am not saying that there are not Christians that are very holy and spiritual, but we ALL sin. Only Jesus never sinned. Do not be so quick to judge other Christians. We all fight different battles. I will leave you with one more thing to consider. If you are not tempted by sin daily then you are probably not much of a threat in the eyes of the devil. Think on that.

Roman's 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. I am living in sin, in so much that almost daily I give in to the lust of my flesh. I am not proud of it. It bothers me deeply. I know that I have experienced the new birth. If there was ever a man with a dual nature - I'd qualify in spades. My particular problem goes back to childhood. I've made alot of mistakes and formed alot of bad habits. Having the Holy Spirit indwelling you is not a guarantee of instant victory over sin. We are still in the flesh. We can get victory over it most of the time if we walk in the spirit, but I confess that I have not done that in quite some time. Daily I apologize to the Lord and daily I call myself a low down dirty rotten liar unworthy of the Lord's grace, but thanks be to God in His manifold wisdom that it was by His grace through faith in my Lord Jesus Christ that I was saved and sealed.

You'll never ever ever get victory over sin while in the flesh. And if you do, your dammed. There I said it. Because you trusted in the flesh not Christ. You useruped Christ and now have become your own God. You've exalted yourself to heaven. The devil does the same. We that are in the flesh put no confidence in it, but trust in Jesus and his righteousness.

Very nice to hear the sermons in more of an everyday language, sometimes Spurgeon's Sermons are not easily read and understood.

Deception is one of the biggest end times revelations from Jesus..the world will be deceived through Satan and the people who say a few words and get baptised believe that they are now saved..no prayer..no fellowship with the Lord..no effort to tell others about the Gospel..nothing..and so they are also deceived..I pray in Jesus Holy Name that they wake up. Religion sends man to hell because they are 'good" Sadly hell is full of these people and they send themselves to hell by their own admission, for the pride and self-righteousness of what they do and keeping the law perfectly, being about their religions works and ceremony they also will be judged by the law. It's the sinner that realizes his total depravity, having a broken contrite heart knowing his sin' separates him for a holy just God. God is sovereign and only He can save a mans soul! God knocks softly upon the heart, and blessed are those that hunger and thirst for truth they will repent and answer the will of God not to worry because everyone whom the Lord God gives to the Son... And none will go unnoticed. God has spoken, He said His sheep hear their Masters voice and obey. Everyone of us better tremble and be sure to search out the truth and walk the narrow path. Be reminded "many are called, but few are chosen." You must be born-again, from above. We are not redeemed by our infant baptism nor anything about our goodness BECAUSE WE'RE NOT GOOD. To me this man preaches grace then adds aload of must do to keep our salvation or to prove our salvation yet salvation isimt an act of man it's a free gift of God all we need to is repent. ( change our mind) and with a change of mind comes faith and a new spirit a new heart and a new way of life it's good to stop sinning ofcourse! But it's rather by grace or works even the bible says its 1 or another they don't go hand in hand 😊

Fake conversion isn't that hard to understand. The very moment that you trust in Christ death and resurrection for total forgiveness of all sin past, present, future, and eternal life, then you're saved. If you were just trying to trick people into thinking you believe, when you actually didn't, then you're not saved. If you think that you're saved by just going to church, or being nice, or getting baptised or taking communion, but you haven't trusted in Christ death and resurrection, you're not saved.

Yeah this makes it so complicated like if a child can't understand it forget it

I have really been questioning my salvation a lot recently, and I still don’t know after this. I know a few months ago I was definitely a false convert, living in hypocrisy, addicted to lust. I believe I repented, felt as horrible sense of wrongdoing and I believe I still feel it, and turned away from my sin, putting my faith and trust in Jesus. I failed a few times after, I feel like lust is more or less dead now (it was the big one for me, pornography addiction). I’m also trying to kill every sin that I can see, but I do believe a-lot of it is fear of the lion, hell. I’m departing from sin, I believe I am trying to know who God is (I question this sometimes as well), but I do greatly fear hell. I’m struggling with evangelism as well. I could use some prayer and maybe some advice as to whether this Charles Spurgeon sermon would apply to me in this manner. Edit: forgot to add, I do have a hatred for sin, but I also don’t know if that’s just because I’m afraid of hell.

🙏 Very good to examine ourselves to see if we are in the Faith, shows a heart that is not yet hardened in sin. 🙏 I've been porn free for 15 years now after 30 years of following my lust, Praise God! for freedom. I saw the images finally as they that "have eyes and do not see(me), ears and they don't hear(me), and if they are nudged(as a wooden idol) they would topple." God showed me it was a serious idol, having a fantasy "relationship". God used the Sunday school song 🎶 "Be careful little eyes what you see......🎶 as a help to free me. Sing it when tempted. God Bless us all with Victory! This Day, no turning back. 📖

We are sanctified because of the completed work of Christ, but, at the same time we are in the never ending (at least not in this life) process of being sanctified. The fact that you are wrestling with this leads me to believe you are indeed amongst the called of God. Every blessing in your walk.

I would recommend reading and studying 1 John. Read it as many times as it takes to understand what is being said. It is a very good book for telling us how to tell if we are really saved. In it you will see about sin, our love for other saints (our brothers and sisters in Christ and those in the church body). I read and re-read and listened on audio to 1 John all the month of December. These were the things the Lord showed me during my study and I truly hope it helps you. I think many of us have been or even are exactly where you are right now... Assurance of Salvation: 1. We do not live in darkness according to our own desires. 2. We recognize our sin. 3. We confess our sin to God and are forgiven and washed clean. 4. We keep his commandments. 5. When we keep His word, we are perfected in His love. Meaning we will continue to grow and learn to love as he commands. 6. We will not have hate in our heart. 7. We will not love the world or things of the world such as lusting, envying, or being prideful. 8. We will act in a righteous manner. 9. We will love all our brothers and sisters in Christ. 10. Only by the Spirit can we love as commanded. (If we have the Spirit we are saved) God bless ❤

It is odd to hear him talk about a time when Methodists actually spoke truth as opposed to looking more like his sermon here of false conversion.

Charles Spurgeon was not an academically educated, nor religious man in truth to nature for 1 1st AllMightY Creator.Nor was he born of a time to be, for show to blow. But the man was a powerhouse of joy and wonder with awe. So many scammers stoled his name, and persona in character, as if their own.

So tired of preachers that say, "You believe in a creed, not Christ, Himself." NO CREED BUT CHRIST is a false teaching. It's irrational modernism.

I will be the individual who comes in and out of emotionally seeking God throughout my life, who's prayers were never actually genuine; and it all comes to light after my death. I even have doubts in his existence, i just can't convince myself. I would hope that even if i were convinced, that i would have the will power to trust Jesus and live for Him. But i cant, i dont. I do procrastinate, but i do it because I'm hopeless in.. everything that i need to be successful in. I know thats talking works. But one must believe God is in order to come to Him.. and i just can't. What do i do? Why, pray of course. Now we're back at "do i even mean my prayers, am i even searching with all my heart". Im not.

My friend - I have these same thoughts. All I know is, keep calling out to the Father of grace, only He can put in you the need to search for Him and his salvation, His Son. You will not search if He does not put it in you to search.

If we see a painting, we know it had a painter. If we see a book, we know it had an author. If we see a building, we know it had a builder. Therefore if we see an earth with people and animals and birds and trees and all kinds of fish and insects, we can conclude there was a creator. Just as paintings don't paint themselves and books don't evolve and buildings to raise themselves, we can know there's an intelligent force behind all in this life. The synchronization of the sun, moon and stars and the Earth in it's orbit show a being who is intelligent, powerful and wise. If you've read this far I hope you are starting to believe in a creator. The only other option would be to believe in the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything. So it is clear that God does exsist.

Dear friend, the desire in your heart to believe is God given. It is not just about how you feel, though I must acknowledge that it is important. However, deep down you know He does live. There's a man in the scriptures who cried out to say "I believe, help thou mine unbelief." Give your doubt to God. It is He that shall bring you to Christ. There is no other way. Bow the knee and let the Lord work in your heart. If there is pride in your heart, tell Him so. By His grace He shall break you apart and put you together. Just be honest with the Lord. Confess it all to Him and ask Him to produce within you what you are lacking. He’s so faithful to help us in our weakness if we are sincere. There has to be some sincerity in your heart if you’re on here and have examined your heart like you have.

We are saved by "grace" alone. The righteousness of Christ is imputed to us and not "infused." Our desires are changed by we are still hypocrites because we still have the sin-principle, the "flesh," in us to cause our heart's door to be open to the temptation to "fear the lions" instead of God.

Have you received the holy ghost? Jesus said you MUST be BORN again. Unless you have recieved, you have to believed. God is everything. By and through Jesus ALONE may we "know Him" The holy ghost will come and guide you on to all truth. THANK YOU JESUS Christ for being ALIVE! You can truly be free by being a slave to Christ! We are saved unto (and for the purpose of) holiness. We can't accept the salvation from hell but reject salvation from our sins. Christ means to save us from both.

Aren't we all converted by our reaching the bottom? Hasn't it been that way since the prodigal son? How about the people or Ninevah? We're all brought to conversion by facing the fact of our powerlessness.

Perhaps these people even back then, which apparently is during the time of ancient Israel, should’ve known better because of the tank Commandments. The Commandments, demand, righteousness for the commandments are good, righteous, and just. They reflect the righteousness of God that only he can bestow on man through repentence, grace, and faith. It is received by surrendering your life to Jesus Christ to receive his righteousness thus to make us holy in Him! Well, we know that None are righteous no not one and our own righteousness is like filthy rags unto the Lord. so the gospel pastors should preach the gospel, but teach the 10 Commandments perspectively.

Such are those that love to keep the so called pagan holidays like Valentines, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, Easter, et al.

Looks like gluttony wasn't on his short list of sins to avoid... 😮

This suit and tie fellow ain’t so much what you’d see of this big overall wearing fellow, that built and lived in a cabin made of natural stone and mud with log cabin adjoining walls.

You want the real, hardcore truth? We don’t even know for sure that there’s an afterlife. We just believe. And if there is no afterlife, we still won’t know for sure and every single living human being will have the same fate at death no matter how good or bad they were, saved or unsaved.

Spurgeon was a Calvinist.

The late lamented Mr. Denham has put, at the foot of his portrait, a most admirable text, "Salvation is of the Lord." That is just an epitome of Calvinism; it is the sum and substance of it. If anyone should ask me what I mean by a Calvinist, I should reply, " He is one who says, Salvation is of the Lord." I cannot find in Scripture any other doctrine than this. Repentance is an active quality. The motivation for repentance is either Love or fear. God grants repentance to the earnest heart.

You can believe intellectually, but unless there is true understanding about God's holiness and Righteousness and our sinful condition and how we have sinned against Holy God, and mourn over this sin and violating His perfect law and statutes and turn from these sins because we believe that we are sinners in need of a savior, we are not saved. We can't begin to be sanctifed by the Holy Spirit so that we produce fruit and have a renewing of the mind. It just isn't enough to go to church and say we believe in God. I've been reading Jeremiah, and it's clear they believed, but there was no repentance.

6:20 "it does not seem to enter into their heads that they are immortal..." Isn't eternal life a gift of God, through the fruit of the tree of life? God alone has immortality.

I've read every book by spurgeon for 10 years. He us much into law preaching. He even has quotes on Google about himself and wondering if he was saved and upon hearing the gospel preached by another man during a sermon, Spurgeon started crying and thinking he must be saved. He struggled with this his whole life and I wonder what he ended up believing. We are to rest in Christ's finished work. It's over, we are saved by grace.

When the Holy Ghost falls on the believer that is when they are saved. It is God's Seal unto Redemption Ephesians 4;30 "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?" asked the apostle Paul in Acts 19

Ignorance will send so many to the Lake of Fire. It's very easy to see Gods word in a person. Speaking or actions say whats in their hearts. I have seen so many, racist,lawless, unbelievers of doubting Gods word , and say they believe. You say Jesus to much and they will change the subject or walk away. People,years professing that don't know any scripture or one verse, and they that profess they are born again and that if it wasn't for the Holy Spirit, it would make me the same. And the ones that know scripture and can quote word for word and do or say ungodly things. Trying to compel them to scripture is mostly useless, only to say maybe one will listen. And if that sounds arrogant or high and holy or any other so called insult. Yes, it is. To be set apart peculiar having the Kingdom inside with the Holy Spirit. When people say things or do things that are outright, not scripture, it's a lie from satan and hells demons. Being corrected by an elder, thats God fearing is Gods word in action. Confess those small sins so they don't become greater sins. Those greater sins are practicing sins that harden the heart to not confess them. That will not inherit eternal life with Jesus.

Charles Spurgeon in this sermon showed HE HAD NO IDEA WHO THE SAMARITANS Were or their Origin. The Samaritans were two groups of Jews. Not Gentiles as Spurgeon Presumes. The first group was centuries of Jews who committed grave sins and unpardonable sins. This casting off never to return of Entire Households and Individuals began under Moses in the wilderness So no longer were there any sacrifices for these and the day of atonement was removed forever . . . They were not allowed in the encampment of Israel Either. There is actually a lot of Scripture on the Samarian's in the Old Testament of which we spent weeks a few years ago going through all these passages in a Single Lengthy Article. In the wilderness these probably became camp followers. It is not until the Split between Israel and Judah that Israel gave the Samaritans land to stay on in Samaria. The Samaritans had their own Pentateuch and the book of Joshua. I have a copy of this. Later on the Samaritans created their own rabbis and they met on the sabbath and were taught scripture. When Jesus meets the woman at the well she quotes scripture to Christ though unrecognizable in the KJV. she quotes Moses accurately from Deuteronomy. Jesus came to them for their sincerity unlike the Pharisees Sadducees and Priests that rejected Christ. As these Samaritan's upon hearing Christ in John 4 without a single signs given became followers of Christ. Charles Spurgeon has SOME good messages and SOME Very Bad, Very false messages when almost no believer knew much of anything. Were wildly accepted WE ALL A BEHOOVED to search all men's saying then and now To See if they are materially taught in scripture as these men claim. Out of the mouth of two and three witnesses of scripture to see the scriptures confirm these sayings of men or not!

Other than my recent conviction on being convicted of YHWH telling me He never intended His believers to teach that people were no longer under expected to spend their days trying to uphold His Holy Commandments, His Law. As Paul said, God forbid! This is IMHO, and study/prayer, a distorted/false teaching that has lead many into believing in an emotional experience with no life changing experience with their Creator. Salvation is indeed a gift by grace, but if the life is unchanged it was Most Likely, my friends, a false conversion just like Jude told us about. Stop listening to the doctrines of men!

One other main point, the huge crowds drawn in London, huge church, many ministries. This was all good and very well may have been sent from YHWH/Holy Spirit, but I've seen so very many times where it has been the opposite sadly in history & recent time.
