This is one of the most truly romantic scenes in any movie. It never fails to tear me up. The escalator, the rose, “The Book of Love” playing in the background, “you’ve been dancing with me for 19 years” - true romance, pure and real.

When Richard Gere came up the escalator, I'm sure every woman wished she was Susan Sarandon. I know I did. When I realized the date this film was released, this couple got married the same year as my husband and I, which made this scene really hit home. I watch this clip whenever I can for these reasons. Thank you to the cast, crew and their families for making this film possible. It is true love.

I watched this movie angry. I was angry because I just KNEW he was cheating on his wife in his heart and I hated that because, as a married man I wanted him to be better than that. This scene may have been romantic for women to watch because of the handsome Richard Gere in a tux but for me and other men I know it was a redemption of what we thought was going to be a cheating heart. It was a man choosing his wife above all and remembering why he adored her. I loved that and it immediately moved this movie to one of my top 10 favorites.

So beautiful. So lovingly romantic. Only Richard Gere could pull this together

Can’t watch this without a tissue every time. It never gets old. I will have been dancing with my wife 40 years this June ❤

Congratulations, my late folks also had a June wedding. If they were still with us, they'd be celebrating over 50. They both died in year 38.

When hubby and I with our teenage daughter went to see this movie, the house was packed with gentle old ladies! We were the youngest in the cinema and already in our fifties! Wonderful film of which the super tango danced by Gere and Lopez is still played at our dancesport competitions where hubby and I photograph dancers in action! Simply beautiful!

Love this. As my husband was getting sicker from heart + lung disease during lockdown I occasionally slipped into my red dress & played lady in red & danced with him on the balcony. Sadly he died January 2022. Asleep in death awaiting a resurrection back here on earth soon. Looking forward to being reunited with him ❤

I still remember the wedding I went to when they played this music. A beautiful couple alone on the dance floor making the ultimate commitment to be there for each other for decades to come. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house and for a brief, shining moment we all shared in the notion that this was love and it was an honour to be a part of it. They divorced eight years later.

If Richard Gere, instead of Matthew Broderick, had played Harold Hill in the remake of The Music Man -- they would've had a hit, instead of the lame, "cheap imitation" it is. Broderick would've been much better at being the little sidekick who used to be Hill's schill, and Gere would've nailed the role of Harold "flim-flam" Hill!!!

I am afraid that the Japanese film "Shall We Dance" focuses too much on the sexual ulterior motives of the main character to the dance teacher. I don't like it. And that Japanese one made me feel that the theme of empathy and stimulation that transcends cultural differences depicted in the movie, which is the origin of the music "Shall We Dance?", fades away. I think that this USA remake could have succeeded in restoring the original image.

Ladies, take notes. This is the type of romance you deserve when you are feminine. Not a bad deal, huh?
