With all due respect to the Genesis brand (and the cars), the problem is getting people to step into a Hyundai dealership to buy these cars. Anecdotally, many of the Hyundai dealerships still look and operate like the budget car / used car dealerships. That is perfectly fine if you're trying to lure in other budget car shoppers. The dealership experience, in my opinion, is a big deal to the luxury shoppers. The last several times I stepped into a Hyundai dealership to help friends and family buy a Hyundai, the experience was less than bearable. Having said that, i do think that Genesis can bring in a lot of higher end clientele to force the Hyundai dealers to make upgrades to their facility, customer service, etc.. I am excited for the transformation as the Hyundai / Kia / Genesis line up of cars all look great, and I want my next car to be a Genesis.

@@joshuaychung that is a great point you are making here. Hyundai should definitely step up on their dealerships. When I see how beautiful the Lincoln stores are looking also compared to Ford. Hyundai still have a long way.

Hoping Alex's Mother in law review the third row seat someday.

I'd take this over any German car. I'm glad Genesis is starting to find their signature style, as opposed to copying other vehicles. I'm also glad they are eliminating parts sharing. Now they just need some separate dealers.

BMW Loyalist for life here and My x5 was one car payment away from being paid off before I was told by 3 mechanics that the engine is going to grenade and would be a $14,000 decision if I wanted to keep something I already spent $34,000 in repair costs over 5 years. I traded it in and got one of these and its no let down- More looks and head turning on this that BMW- better interior and I don't have to feel like I'm playing Russian roulette every time I press the start button. This truck is definitely on path to kick the Germans ass and its about time.

I think I would take the Acura MDX Advance Package it cost $ 62,000 and the third row is standard , but the GV80 looks fantastic and the warranty is second to none .

Genesis just released some photos of the GV70 and wow I think the Genesis design language looks the best on that model. Those black rims look awesome and the interior with the oval is really unique

Yeah, it looks spectacular. It's much swoopier than the handsomely traditional GV80. The GV70 looks a bit like a Porsche Macan in some details, but overall looks like nothing else, and in a good way.

Alex, suffice it to say your roughly half hour video had as much useful information in it as some three hour seminars I've attended. Bravo! Love the GV80 in many ways.

It looks way more premium than it might sound on paper.

Please cite your source for the statement that most people drive alone rather than with someone in the passenger seat. Even if you can, there's a difference between short commutes and long trips. It's absolutely ridiculous that Hyundai decided not to include a thigh extender on the passenger seat.

@@omgitsme435 I think if you buy or lease a Genesis they have a concierge service where they will drive to your home and trade you cars and take yours to service and then drive your car back and pickup your loaner

Great video. Love the comment- "3rd row for naughty kids or mother-in-law". I also like how you sometimes incorporate other reviewers (Sofyan Bey from Redline Review) just to show that you know each car reviewers, but I like your reviews the best!

GV70's design is unveiled today here in Korea and it will be release in November. Hope you guys get it soon!

Gv70 looks more like a mercedes from the front. But I'll have to say I like GV80 better. Don't like the rear and interior of 70

Except MotorTrend, they have been crapping all over both this and the new G80 in their reviews. They also did a comparison between the G80 and Mercedes E Class and basically gave the Mercedes the win in every category other than value. Seems really shady, like MT is in Mercedes's pocket based on their reviews of new Genesis products vs all the other auto publications.

Alex you do such a thorough job in hour reviews with all the data points its so greatly appreciated, but I was hoping you might consider posting the curb weight of said vehicles in future reviews? Really the only bit of information that's missing that is important in my opinion.

Great review and great car, but what I am really more excited about is the GV70. The GV80 is too big for me. The GV70 would be a perfect replacement for my X3. If it proves to be better.

Your reviews are unmatched! Terrific job always. Any chance you could add comments on the ‘expected cost to maintain’ for 5+ years or better yet, ‘after warranty’ based on historical data by manufacture/model? Lexus and Genesis should score really well. The Germans might not. You mentioned the initial cost comparisons for similarly equipped X5, RX, MB, XC90, etc. Add to that comparison the estimated out of pocket $ to maintain each and the differences are probably more dramatic. Thanks from a loyal subscriber!

I have the 2.5 GV80 prestege awd and I love it. I compared all suv's across the spectrum and for me the cost and luxury made the GV80 the top choice. Drives like a dream and is very quiet. I love all of the driver conveniences!

9:55 i *LOVE* that they colocated the tweeter & midrange speakers. that makes for _great_ sound staging. not near enough vehicles do this.

Very happy with my g90 2017. It is the biggest car I have had. A little smaller and all the new stuff... I will really have to see one and evaluate the missing stuff. I did have a Hyundai Sonata for 20 years plus. Gave it away when it would keep the lights on by itself. Nice firm ride...

I’m looking for the ultimate isolation/relaxation car. Motortrend didn’t think highly of the suspension and ride quality so it’s interesting to hear Alexs uhigh praise on the ride quality.

Hey Alex, Your 0 60 times are usually on par with the rest of the automotive press, but this one was a bit off, Car and Driver did it in 5.3 seconds and quarter mile and 13.9, I’ll be interested to see what other journalist get, excellent review 🙏

Seriously even the lowest end mode of the gv80 is luxurious, and yet, they still give a lot of the right premium features without skimping out major luxury. They also did a fantastic job of creating a good distinction between each trim level, which is very difficult to do in a luxury car.

As the LS400 did for Lexus 30 years ago, I predict this is the model that will establish Genesis as a true luxury contender.

Not gonna happen. Genesis already has a reputation as a desperate cheat Asian manufacturer that is notorious for copying other luxury brand designs and undercutting competition. Other than Americans and Koreans, very few people have respect for the Genesis brand. BTW, the Genesis GV70 is a clone of Porsche designs.

In so early that it is only available in 360p.

I dont care about the mpg, i love this suv

These are performance not efficiency. Mpg is not a priority, they are competing with x5, MDX, GL and Audi.

I thought that was shat we would have purchased with the nicer white exterior, until we saw it. To us the dune color was too orange for our taste. We wound up buying a gray one with beige/black interior, prestige. We love it!

Not in the market for a SUV or a CUV, but this is nice!!! Genesis is on my list for replacement cars in the future. Being cheaper without losing look, feel, and performance is ok in my book. Great job Genesis! Great video as always, Alex.

Interesting new entry to jar the mid size luxury SUV segment

I think we're all happy that Alex kept the seat of his pants intact this time, unlike his "Moon over Miami" during the original press launch for this GV80.

I prefer the 4 spoke wheel makes it more comfortable for me on long drives. Great looking car. Will be looking at this and the new Acura MDX 2021.

Love. It. Hope a new powerplant will become available later either hybrid or v8.

Inside & out, it is PERFECTION!!!! Brand loyalty be damned, I want a Genesis! The only thing I'd change is to add proper massage seat capability to both front seats, and cooled seats in the second row. Otherwise, it is literally perfect! Imagine once Genesis offers this in a plug in hybrid or electric version!

In South Korea, cooled seats in the second row is one of the option and able to change climate settings.

The Prestige package adds cooled second row seats. Cooled seats also called ventilated seats which the GV80 offers with the Prestige Package between the 2.5T & the 3.5TT

This gets my vote for SUV of the year... What an all-around complete package. I would probably buy it on looks alone...

The X5 and GLE will get better fuel economy they're inline 6's with mild hybrid setups. The GV80 is a V6 and gets the exact same fuel economy as other V6's in this segment like the Aviator and Q7. Surprisingly though, the 2.5L 4-cylinder gets the same fuel economy as the one in the GLE and better fuel economy than the Q7, despite having a larger displacement and no mild hyrbid.

Definitely will be my next vehicle. Hope they add a mild hybrid system down the line to help boost the fuel economy.

I know the 3rd row has smaller seats, but nobody every pushes the middle seat forward a bit just to get accommodated. There is plenty of space in the middle hence it can be pushed forward to make space for the 3rd row..

I'm flummoxed too, and for me, as a chauffeur in Australia, the Q7 is a better buy, for a number of reasons.

With this GV80 and a possible GV70 to compete with the BMW X5 and X3, it would only be right for Genesis to produce a GV90 to compete with the X7, and probably put in the 5.0 V8 from the G90 as an engine option.

Alex you said the steering wheel was a "3" spoke steering wheel. Isn't it actually a 2 spoke?

Great video! Alex just keeps delivering informative and high quality care reviews year after year. OTOH I don’t think GV80 is gonna sell well, in spite of the gorgeous exterior&interior and the general value. More sensible/rational family guy or gal is always gonna buy the Lexus or maybe the Volvo, while the diehard German fanboi will always buy German. Oh and Genesis dealer sucks. I should know since I’m a G70 owner. Can’t imagine richer/older folks who shop in GV80’s segment can put up with their bs.

Also Genesis really need to work out a solution to improve their launch(0-60) times while not destroying the drivetrain. My 2.0 G70 launches terribly slow too. It may not matter in real world driving, but 0-60 time is an essential marketing tool.
