I won tickets to see him off a local radio show.. There are certain songs you hear at certain times that are the perfect mood and match the perfect feeling, and most importantly will bring back memories each time you hear them. Every time I listen to this song, it will bring back one of the greatest memories I have and I’m thankful for it.
This is some of the most impressive shit ever. I wanna know what tuning he’s in, and what gauge strings he’s got on, freaking 9s? Those bends look like they’re gonna snap, but they’re so loose and the action is low, the way I set my guitars up. He’s in that rare zone you get in , where you don’t have to look at anything, and you just lean into the emotion and feel of sounding awesome. Dude is amazing.

That main guitar riff does something indescribable and wonderful to my soul. And the vocals are beautiful, too. This song makes me feel so alive every time I listen to it.
always wind up back here at this one video of him. the rawness and the power in this one is just unmatched none of his official streaming music can quite compare. something about it. lives rent free in my brain always
Dear KZread algorithm, thank you, for once, for taking me somewhere I didn't know I really wanted to go. My mind is blown at the range and talent.
What is the acceptable limit for how many times I can listen to this? Can't. stop.

This performance/song/writing/art/human/man/gloriousness/delicious fire of perfection ... is how I can stay alive.
RIP Alex Chapa. After so many obstacles you faced you conquered them all and went out like a Legend. Went from convict, to fireman eventually winning rookie of the year firefighter. You will be missed forever my brother. Houston legend. December 30, 1996 - April 4, 2021
I've been listening to this for weeks, can't stop.
Found this video a couple of days ago and I can't stop listening to this guy. I'm obsessed. I haven't heard anything like him before. His music is perfect mix of western, rock, and folk. He's described as a country folk artist but it he sounds more western than country to me.

I definitely hear the folk in his music, but yeah, country doesn’t really fit what I’ve heard so far. Folk/bluegrass/western, and this particular song has some deep blues vibes.
Old man here And impressed as hell New sound,or just bending the old in a new way.
Brought tears to this navy vet 10 folds!!!!!
This man has more talent in the tip of his index finger than I do in my whole body. Thank you for reminding us what good music sounds like, Alejandro.
Honestly I only heard his music on spotify and definitely though shakey graves was an entire band not one person. A true virtuoso
Ive lost track of how many times ive come back to listen to this performance. truly one of his greatest showings.
I stumbled here and thank jeebus i did! I am now a shakey graves believer...i can feel him in my soul.

If I may offer a counterpoint; Radio is where music goes to die. As something gets played for it's popularity, it creates a pressure on the artist to conform. To stay popular, you have to linearize your sound. God forbid a popular artist drastically changes their tone/sound. By staying 'under the radar' artists are allowed to remain in their own zone, and do as they please. Plus, Radio is for 'easy-listening'. These guys benefit from energy, improvisation, and energy. I would be willing to bet these guys love playing live for their fans, more than anything else. You don't get that if you get played on the Radio. Which is more than anything the reason for Radio is dying out, it's not challenging people to listen. Music is never dead, live instrumentation might be on a decline, but if you dig around on the Internet, plenty of it is there. Perhaps you can look away from the Radio as a source of new tunes moving forward?

If you want to hear good music, stop listening to the radio. It's not rocket science

I disagree, although this is probably true for most cases there are always exceptions to the rule. I learned about this, as well as many great artists, through public radio. KEXP seems to have some great, atypical artists as well.
😮 I'm seven years late. Glad I found my way here. This guy is good.

LMAO I jus found this last week, and assumed it was new (1year old) because I jus got this far down in the comments 😂🤣😭
One of those stand out performances that will live forever. This can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere by anyone.
Went to see Shakey Graves when he was in Toronto not too long ago. About an hour before the concert my wife and I ran into him in a store. We got our picture taken with him. He was generous with his time and an absolute gentleman. And the concert was great too.
My heart shakes for this song.
just raw talent. he is amazing and needs to be more popular

Love to see all the comments from the last year. This guy is an absolute machine and this song is up there for one of the best, I think. Been almost 10 years since I first saw this and I still come back regularly
Watched this a hundred times.. goosebumps every single time. Absolute musical perfection right there.
good gracious that snarl is everything. I can't resist a good, rough voice bellowing out some soul tunes, this is perfection

I thank the invention of the internet so much for this video in particular.
Truest rock n roll since the led zeppelin! With a blues touch!. Thank you for this song..my grandma and I listen to it together..she would be a big fan! She has passed..yet when I hear this she is still here..thanks for that..awesome song!

Sorry but no. Tash has nowhere near the skill level that Shakey does. The sheer amount of intelligence this guy shows by being able to create melodies and harmonies on his guitar, sing and play percussion simultaneously live far outweighs Tash's intelligence as seen by her/his ability to use looping software.

I met an adorable 12 year old from Georgia at the hat shop I worked at who told me his idol was Shakey graves and it made my heart explode. He was so excited to become great and we talked about music and lyrics...gosh I hope that kid becomes an awesome musician and human being bless him

I fu*ken love this damn song, I was first introduced to it by my gf's Step Dad. And ever since, I've been hella vibin' to it.
This has got to be one of the best performances ever.. I listen to the whole Audiotree session often but of course this song jumps out. This whole session was so genuine, authentic and pure awesome. Can't believe it has been 10 years. This has literally been a part of my life, thank you so much Shakey! Audiotree too of course, the interviews in between where so cool
Oh my goodness, I'm so obsessed with this raw performance.
so effing talented. how does he remember to play all that and still be able to sing? in love with everything in this performance.
It takes mad talent to play three things at one time and sing 👌
If talent was a person, it would be this guy.

Perfect description.
he never plays a song the same way twice. it's both obnoxious and fantastic..
This is what true talent looks like!
I’m sorry I can only give this 1 “thumbs up”. It deserves 10
Seeing him performing live was enchanting. Shakey Graves has only grown in his talents over the last 10 years and his stage presence is like nothing I've ever seen
I'm actually glad that people are finding Shakey Graves stuff and liking it. I started listening because of my parents and I really fell in love with Alejandro's music. If you just finding his stuff, I recommend his album "Can't wake up" Its got some good stuff, and that was the first album I started listening to.

MY JAW DROPPED. I LOVED HIM BEFORE.... BUT THIS. THIS IS AMAZING.
I can't stop watching it. Melts my brain every time. Absolutely amazing.
I saw him in Santa Fe last summer. Fantastic artist, loves to have fun while playing his music. One of my contemporary favorites for sure.
He's gonna singlehandedly make all of us single.
