Shaker Step Stools | S3 E1

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

After visiting the Hancock Shaker Village in western Massachusetts for inspiration, Norm returns to the workshop to build two versions of the classic Shaker step stool - a simple three-step model and a fancier one with two steps. The first stool is made from pine, mostly with hand-held power tools and hand tools, while the more complex version is cherry, featuring through-dovetail joinery fashioned with a sophisticated dovetail jig.

Thanks for posting these episodes. It is fantastic to see Norm build those projects again. They are timeless and endlessly fascinating.

Built both in the early 1990s with the VHS tape and measured drawings. My first Norm projects where I learned a lot by doing the work with the video tape. To this day I still have a TV (and iPad) in the shop and barn for how to videos on KZread. The three step pine step stool traveled with my shop from MA to PA and back to CA and is still in use today - 30+ years later! The two step cherry step stool (made it out of oak) left me years ago with my first wife. My first use of my Leigh dovetail jig. Again Norm, thanks for the memories and teachings.

This is a nice set of projects. I may attempt the pine stool. It would be handy for kids to reach the sink or counters. Great show.

I always loved Norm’s Safety Prayer. “Be sure to read, understand, and follow all the safety rules that come with your power tools. Knowing how to use your power tools properly will greatly reduce the risk of personal injury. And remember this: There no more important safety rule to wear these, safety glasses.”

Actually this site is illegal. This is a "reposting" or attempt at "recreating" the New Yankee Workshop which was produced through WGBH TV so long ago. The person who is posting these shows as the actual show with Norm Abrams says that since he "owns the building" he can "launch" an "official" New Yankee Workshop You Tube Site. This is the exact content without any context. Norm Abrams needs a lawyer. Copy-write law addresses this. Do not subscribe.

Russ Morash is the owner of the physical shop, as well as the original creator and producer of the show. I imagine he has some rights to the show too, no? He and/or his company are the ones running this channel.

Those step stools are as dangerous as hell, the foot must be extended past the back of the stool or you will be on your face. These are much used on second fix building sites and always have a batten on each side projecting forward.

@@817seanwhite I've seen it. That video is what defines the travesty of this so called "Official" thing. Norm should be the "current" spokes person for his work "back in the day." Not "the old guy" who happens to own the building. Norm Abram is the New Yankee Workshop. Not "Rush" ! Whew! So obvious.
