Kool Herc is but a part of the patchwork that is Hip Hop. And Disco, Funk and RnB are equally important to the culture. First of all, Hip Hop ie a culture, rap is the music. Black Americans have been rapping way before Jamaica was doing reggae. And there would be no reggae, rock steady or ska were it not for rnb, soul and rock n roll. Also, there was no breakdancing, turntablism and scratching, or graffiti In Jamaica. That is distinctly American. And there would be no Reggae or Dancehall, if Bob Marley and U Roy and Count Matchuki didn’t imitate black American soul singers and jive talk on the radio. What Shaggy doesn’t mention is that Jamaicans over exaggerate as well as overachieve.
