A resume of all these cutscenes and what they represent: The immortal Shadow Realm was ruled by Enra and protected by his brothers Hoji, Gozu, Mezu and Xing. This realm was much akin to the human world, with a sole exception - it wouldn't rain at it's own whim, instead the rain being dependant on the tears of the sole sister Ameonna. Understanding that, Enra knew that Ameonna couldn't ever be happy, know love, et cetera, and so forbid the brothers from coming too close to her and getting to know her. Her misery was the life of the Realm, and Enra did as any other governor would - forfeit one for a hundred's sake. However, Ameonna's constant sadness was also a flaw, as her constant tearing would flood the realm, and so Enra commissioned Hoji to deliver sleeping potions as to soothe her and, in effect, 'control' the rain. Enra, however, didn't anticipate Hoji's curiosity, to the point he left a toy doll at Ameonna's doorstep, which garnered her attention to the point she let Hoji in. When she did that and came to know his kindness, which led to incest (inevitable, due to the extreme isolation imposed by Enra), Ameonna became happy for the first time in ages. However, this had the dreadful, predictable consequence - no rain, which led to a drought. After all, how can one cry with joy on her heart? Enra, by this time, knew something was amiss and climbed Ameonna's mountain to discover her and Hoji together. Enra ended up putting two-plus-two together and unleashed his anger on Hoji, disfiguring him as a demonstration to all of the consequences of upsetting the 'natural order'. Convinced (or intimidated/blackmailed by Enra), Ameonna swore to sever her ties to Hoji and return to cry, restoring the rain. Hoji didn't forgive this, however (thinking Ameonna betrayed him as, on his words, she should've stayed by his side), and thus plotted with Xing - whom sought to topple Enra and rule the Shadow Realm - to poison Ameonna and allow Xing to attempt his coup, which was stopped by Mezu. No one did foresee, however, that Hoji's poison would put Ameonna into an eternal sleep, effectively causing an eternal drought that tore the Shadow Realm asunder. When Enra went to Hoji in a desperate attempt to find a solution, it's when he found the golems and again put two-plus-two together. He banished Hoji from the realm, but not before Hoji imparted his painful memories to it's golem. Eventually, so did Gozu, Mezu and Xing, consumed by their guilt. Enra determined that only one thing would break the eternal sleep caused by Hoji, and that would be the sacrifice of one of the brothers - not knowing it'd be himself, at the end, and even then he wouldn't, his obssession with controlling the Shadow Realm getting over the clear need to heal it. That would require the use of the realm's most forbidden weapon - the Nobitsura Kage - which was casted away to the human realm. Enra thus stroke a bargain with Orochi Zilla to collect the sword in exchange for power, Orochi unaware that Enra would eventually double-cross him. And the only thing that went wrong in all this? Lo Wang, the guy hired to get the sword, and then got double-crossed himself, and then started doing his own shit when paired up with Hoji, eventually screwing everyone's plans over...

This game is so damn amazing... Fun to play but also a real artistic masterpiece... And the soundtrack is someting sublime

I didn´t understand the plot quite clearly until I checked wikipedia. Enra, Hoji, Gozu, Mezu, Xing and Ameonna were immortal brothers. Hoji was having incestuous affair with his sister, that is why she was happy and stopped crying.. These videos are one from each brother, these are the memories they had from Ameonna.

Yeah, they sacrificed their memories to fuel the clay golem, when you kill the golem you can see the memory used to fuel it.

I only started to get super into the plot towards the end and regretted not bothering to try to understand it very hard earlier. The writing is actually quite good.

I couldn't play the second game more than a few dozen minutes basically because of this. All the character development Lo Wang had was just thrown away for the sake of having dumb jokes. But this time, Hoji is not around to mock Lo Wang's blockbuster hero attitude and be a sarcastic asshole. Such a sad change...
