@@scifiguy9000 a short, basic title would do wonders for a TCW style show post ROTJ. “Star Wars: The New Republic” or something similar would be awesome. Calling it New Jedi Order wouldn’t really work imo cause the NJO in canon doesn’t pan out and clearly doesn’t really have a gigantic story arc like the EU NJO series, unfortunately.

The moment I heard Lando talk about searching for Ochi and Exegol in TROS, I thought "That sounds like a *perfect* idea for a novel", and it was a story I was extremely excited to read. As someone who absolutely adores TROS and loves Palpatine's return (specifically what it says about the unnatural nature of the Dark Side and the Sith's fearful desperation to cling to mortal life at any cost, unlike the Jedi), Shadows of the Sith is easily my most anticipated novel in the new Star Wars canon to date! This review only heightened that anticipation! My copy's already preordered, and I can't wait to dive in!

I think I'd feel a lot better about the sequels if it weren't for the relentless hate from the fandom, I associate them with weariness. Glad to see them being expanded upon and improved, like how the prequels were elevated to legend by the expanded content for them.

Great review. Do you have any plans on doing a complete updated ranking list/video of all the modern novels? i think its been a while since you did it last time.
In the same way that extra-filmic texts have recontextualized the prequels for many, I'm excited for the same to happen with the sequels. I hope those that felt like the films didn't stick the landing can find some fun in it. TROS was messy as heck, but darn it if I don't love the characters and want to see 1) what they do next and 2) what amazingly creative people can do to make us look at their pasts differently and more complexly and completely.

TROS is a mess, but it's such a fun mess that I can't help but love it.
Not a huge fan of TROS, but it did arguably contain the most interesting backstory out of all 3 sequel movies and I'm so happy it's finally getting told! Can't wait to read this book!
I’m also very excited about this novel. Can’t wait to talk to people about it

You can say that again. It a nice safe happy place.
Just preordered it this morning, looking forward to it! Definitely agree that some of the Star Wars books can have a slow or monotonous build up in the first half, but then it usually does pay off towards the end, I suppose this can be expected with some of the standalone books, but I think the bigger series should work on it in some ways.
Thanks for the review. I can't wait to do the Audio version. I discovered you channel about a year back & I love it. I'm a day one fan of Star Wars & I appreciate your passion for the series. Even when the franchise is at it's weakest you tastefully state your dislikes without "Bitching". I find that refreshing. We don't have to like every SW movie, comic, novel or show. Also, we don't have to turn our backs on something that has inspired us, provided us with decades of entertainment & great memories either. Great job.
I got a super early copy of this book digitally because we had to meet up with Adam during Celebration for our interview with him on Tarkin's Top Shelf. The book was a breeze to read through for me, so I was shocked to find out just how big the actual book was when I got the physical copy. As fast as I read it, I was sure that it was in the 300-350 page range and was shocked to find it was over 450 pages. I loved this book.
Is Lando's daughter named in this, or are they still keeping it under wraps for now? I personally think it might be Jannah, but I don't mind who it turns out to be... I'm kinda glad we got the start of material that ties into the sequel trilogy to give more input and detail, like the Prequels had with books (both legends and canon) and even the Clone Wars show. I myself more or less want stories in some form like books, comics, cartoons (or even anime) that shows the post-rise of skywalker era to see if there is a new jedi order, or if the republic is back or an new government or kingdom has risen and what our heroes are up too, considering factors like the Chiss Ascendancy is out there along with a race, The Grysk, from another galaxy they fight with is out there... And also stories about the eras before High Republic since there is an Old Republic era that isn't explored yet in canon and surprisingly, elements from legends that are canon but needs exploring: Revan, Exar Kun, Ulic-Qel Droma, the two Sith Empires (the latter one being under Exar), The Rakatar, the Sith Species (I think), The Brotherhood of Darkness....list goes on a bit if you look at Wookiepedia. Hell, even Xizor is canon via a mention, so get him as an antagonist. Yeah, basically. It'll probably take a long time in our lives to cover these parts of the timeline, but as Yoda always advised....patience.

The preview excerpts have already revealed that the book will name Lando's daughter (her name is Kadara), but the different name doesn't necessarily mean she isn't Jannah, as Jannah isn't her real name, it's a name she gave herself after leaving the First Order, like Finn's name, as she doesn't know her real name.
@scifiguy9000
2 жыл бұрын
@@agentw8728 Kadara sounds like a nice name. I hope Kadara turns out to be Jannah. Not sure what format, whether a book or comic or even an animation or mini-series that has Jannah and Lando help one another find their lost loved ones post TROS. In fact, I even think a solo Finn series where he goes off to find out his own past would be cool too. (unless they already covered that area already) It could tiny baby steps (no pun intended) towards a 'post TROS' era that is so far unexplored....
Congrats on 750 thousand subscribers!
I am very excited to read this book! I'm happy to see that the sequel trilogy era is getting some expanded stories like the old legends books I read set in the prequel era. I too was caught off guard by the Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter plotline in the movie. I grew more used to it the more I watched the movie, but it will definitely be good to see that part of the story expanded upon and feel more natural. I also am one of those few people who enjoyed Palpatine's return in the sequel trilogy, so learning more about his manipulating of the galaxy from beyond the grave on Exegol will be exciting!

I can't wait to read this and looking forward to finding out more about these villians.
Loved that we got a hint of Lor San Tekka and Luke’s adventures.
This books gives me legends vibes, the same feelings I had going to the library when I was younger and checking out the Young Jedi and Dark Empire books
How did you get the book early? Because as soon as I heard it was available for pre-order on Audible I did it and I cannot wait to listen to it
I've read EVERY Cannon book and this one is sitting on my nightstand as of now! I also absolutely LOVE Legends material - I think they're doing a great job in canon!
Looking forward to reading/listening to this. Was not a fan of all the changes and needless mcguffins in TROS. I'm hoping this book sheds some light on that story and makes it clearer and make more logical sense. Excited to go on an adventure with sequel Luke!
Looking forward to this one! Also, the video description says that Shadow of the Sith is out today, which unfortunately it is not :(
It's showing June 28 on Amazon? Is it just the Audible version that's out today?
If you could do a video on the background of Ochi that would do greatly appreciate before I read the book
Thanks for the review. Look forward to seeing Luke and Lando having an adventure together.
I pre ordered this book so long ago. I like Ochi and Lando is one of my favorite characters. Thanks for the review.
I would like to know if Ochi of Bestoon has the same personality as he does in the comics cause he is a little goofy in those and I am worried if they changed his personality to make him more serious
Hyped for this. Can't wait to get it from the library
Already got this bad boy preordered and ready to fire it up at the end of the month! Thanks for the review!
Talks of retconning the Sequel Trilogy out from some folks just feels so uncreative and lazy. Would it not be worthwhile to take the parts that did work, build on that, and eventually make something good out of it? That’s what happened with the Prequel Trilogy and look at where it is now.

I'm so excited to read this book! I agree that the bigger stories should be saved for movies and some TV shows as well in my opinion.
Very Interesting
As a TRoS, this is my most anticipated book of the year. I’m glad to hear so many great things.
Hey Alex, can you start making videos diving into the entire story and spoilers for those of us that don’t have time to read the books, but still want to be a completionist of the canon. I think that would be awesome, thanks.
The one thing I’m most curious about is if Rey’s father had three eyes ;)
Palpatine is probably my favourite character and I still wasn't a fan of him returning or how they delivered it. But I loved the look of Exegol and all the messed up Sith powers used to keep him alive. I like learning secrets of the Sith so I expect I'll like this book. Cool overview!
i still cant get into the high republic no matter how much i read or try but was looking forward to this one

You totally tricked me Alex, I got really excited when I saw this review and checked my audible account only to find we had another 2 weeks left! Solid review though, I’m super excited for this book!
Before your thoughts Bud, I thought by the end of the book, haven't read it yet, but I have hope it will be good now, Luke will learn about Snoke, and chalk all the disturbances he felt up to him, so begins his awareness of the humanoid's influence over Ben.
I’ve had this book for about a week now since my bookstore had it out early. I’m only on page 100 because I’m having a hard time getting into it. When you mentioned how books have to build up, I was hoping you were going to say that you felt the same way; book has a slow start but gets better once it gets going. But you said the opposite. That makes me really worry since I’m already struggling! I feel like I’m supposed to know Ochi but have no idea of his history with Vader or Palpatine so that isn’t helping. At least it’s cool to get some post RotJ Luke action.
I would love to have more context for the ST. I would prefer a Disney+ show, but I don't think that will happen.
whos on the front cover with the red lightsaber
Loved the review, will check it out! "Don't love that, but I accept that it happened" is the perfect way of summarizing how I feel about a lot of sequel ideas. And, you know what, I felt the same way about a lot of the post-Bantam EU. It's poetic that I end up feeling the same way about the billion dollar replacement for the EU. Focus on the good.
So does that mean meetra surik is cannon ?
I'll live with Palpatine 's return. But it would been nice to have saw Snoke as a Sith hidden in wild space for 1000 years. And Maul as his second. I'm just starting the novel . And Audio books are awesome iv done dozens so far. Away great clip 👍🏼

I’m loving this book so far but if I hear the word “cacophony” one more time I’m gonna scream. Also the ten minute alarm sound in that one chapter went on way too long.
I'm all down for Palpatine coming back. Legends and Cannon. I like a Lich and a Space Lich is just twice as cool. What better way to show his rejection of the natural cycle of life and death and persistent generational hatred for his enemies, all while highlighting the uselessness of his unlife as a pale imitation that only the most vile beings would see as preferable to death. He is an abomination doomed to die and die again until not even death will take him, only oblivion
