Shadow of the Beast speedrun

30th anniversary speedrun. SOTB1 is considered as one of the hardest Amiga games. I beat this game first time only few days ago without cheats. Precision is very important, even after memorizing the whole game.
Not a perfect run, but I'm very happy with this time, because I found a glitch in the last boss and it took only few hits to kill him. Normally you'd have to beat him for quite a while longer. I'm not sure what caused the glitch though, first time I've seen that. It might be caused by getting hit before hitting the toe. Definitely room for improvement, considering where to take intentional damage.

There's a short documentary with one of the developers, it's called "from bedrooms to billions: making of shadow of the beast". very interesting, they spent one night programming without sleep, one night sleeping. "a bit of blood on the keyboard, from falling asleep and hitting that thing"

Back when I owned an Amiga 500 I had a hard time imagining that any computer would ever surpass its capabilities,. However after I saw Castle of Illusion and Ghouls'n'Ghost on Sega Genesis I had to accept defeat. Amiga no longer had the greatest graphics and most fluent animation. The sound of the Amiga was still way ahead of other computers/consoles though.

@@plpmandenand that’s unfortunate, the amiga was a beast of a machine. Oh, 7.16 mhz 68000 with 32 colors not good enough? Introducing HAM and HALF BRITE, as well as DPF. Still? Sprites and PAULA, allowing for 4 channels of 8 bit sound with volume control OR 2 channels of 16 bit sound. You also got hires and a 40kb per second disk drive. STILL??? There’s better machines like the A1200 which has a 14.32 mhz 68020 and AGA, a super powerful 32 bit enhancement allowing for 262,144 colors at once (or 256) even in hires, and gives you new SUPERHIRES modes. STILL????? You’ve got mid line stuff like the copper, and the freakin’ DEMOSCENE. If you need more, go to the PowerPC amigas.

Thx, lol! :D I'm pretty chill so not too much collateral damage :) It's not that hard getting an under 20min run, after beating the game for the first time. Most of the early game is rather easy with lots of surplus health. There are many small mistakes and safe strats in this run so it shouldn't be too hard to beat, especially if the glitch for the end boss is consistent.

Loistavaa!

@@einokeino303 einokeino303 No niin, kiitos tarkennuksista. Muistan kuitenkin, että peli kysyy "are you looking for a torch?" jos linnasta tulee ulos (samasta ovesta josta menet sisään). Sama juttu jos aloituksesta lähtee suoraan oikealle ja laskeutuu kaivoon, niin alaovi on lukossa ja tällöin latausruudussa lukee ylös tullessa "are you looking for a key? Loppupomo-bugi oli joka tapauksessa mielenkiintoinen löytö!
