Shadow Empire | Minos Tribe | Ep. 063 - Facing Sansaria, Plans

Ойындар

Shadow Empire is my favourite strategy game, a masterpiece 4X/Wargame hybrid from VR Designs, published by Matrix. In this new series, I ramp the difficulty up to Hard and play on what I expect to be a fairly difficult planet in the hopes of testing the AI out properly.
You can find the game at www.matrixgames.com.

Alright, looking forward to see if you can pull of this ambush. I'd worry that Sansaria will have noticed your 'hammer' troops hiding and have a response force ready for them. While they pound away at your 'anvil' in retreat.

I had a tough choice there, between not taking those mountain hexes (for advanced warning of enemy movements and to reduce movement costs myself when moving through them) and leaving them free, risking them seeing the ambush. I'd rather take the hexes than pull of one ambush I think, I need to know if he's doing the same thing to me. They won't do any real damage to a force set to "Retreat" really, not with ground attacks anyway.

18:55 - Small counts as 100mm, Medium counts as 200mm, and Heavy counts as 300mm. The Medium also have more range than Small, and Heavy have more range than Medium now, which is not shown on the Blueprint. However, there is something to be said for using a cheaper design first to get some Field Testing.

There's also the ammunition cost to take into account. I don't remember getting a whole lot of utility out of rockets but missiles are a completely different beast, you'll reliably kill stuff with the latter, especially with the bigger size. I reckon rockets probably work more like artillery in that they're more about Readiness/Entrenchment damage than killing units, but as I said I never got a lot out of them: especially now with the massive ammunition costs I think I'd have to think twice or three times before firing them at something.

@@battlemode Yeah. To get a lot out of them, I find you have to get a lot of Field Testing, which requires firing them a ton. Very hard to do with the ammo costs now.

IMO the game should only allow changing a given unit's tactics once per turn.

I like how it works here. Consider that each turn is a whole month, and it'd feel strange for the unit to be doing the same tactic all that time. I do wonder if perhaps there should be a bigger PP cost for subsequent switches during the turn, but at the moment it feels about right to me.

@@battlemode I suppose. I mainly just don't like the switching to an attack to make an attack and then switching back to a defense.

Still holding on, have you build a bunker in your capital?

No, I'll try to get that done asap though as it'll be important if we're pushed back that far
