Shadow Coins - my favorite coin routine Edwin Sachs, David Roth & Dean Dill

Ойын-сауық

I have been doing the first two phases of this routine for almost fifty years now. I was lucky to have had some great sessions with David Roth when he was running the magic shop at Circus Circus in Las Vegas in the early seventies and got to see David do his version of the Sachs routine with coins. Dean Dill taught me the third phase of this routine in the early nineties.

    I saw someone do the two-card matrix routine at the TAOM back in 1971. I am not sure who to credit? If anyone knows where this phase of the routine first appeared in print, please comment below. @@allanackerman4848 So after almost 2 weeks, I'm doing your sequences here. Honestly, I'm a bit bummed out, because I'm 75% of the way there (sequence, not patter) and am missing a few subtleties. I'm afraid to give anything away here, so if you're open to it, I'd love to PM you or chat about it. If not, I totally understand. I want to do it justice and perform it for laymen :)

    I'm curious why you don't credit to Michael Amar? That is where I learned it.

  • @allanackerman4848

    @allanackerman4848

    Michael - the first part of the routine is what I saw David Roth do -- probably in 1972, it might have been 1973, the two years he was in Vegas running the magic shop at Circus Circus Hotel and Casino. It was not until the early nineties I saw Michael do the routine. He added some beautiful moments to the effect, e.g., it looked like your hands never came close to the coins. It felt like your hands were about 6 inches above the ground. But when you add something, sometimes you lose something - you now had to have the audience view looking downward. So, I never did use that approach. But yes -- Amar's version is more magical looking -- and he is the one that made the effect famous. So, thank you for your comment -- I should have mentioned Amar.

    It is in the first issue of Apocalypse. You can search for it on KZread and I think will find a few versions with explanations. The first part using the two cards is in Stars of Magic.
