Shadetree Garage Bondo Glass review Jun 15

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

With all the many brands and types of body fillers on the market, Jim reviews Bondo Glass, manufactured by one of the oldest names in body filler.
Bondo Glass is one of two variations of its fiberglass reinforced body filler. The one reviewed here is the short-strand fiberglass filler. The company also sells long-strand fiberglass filler.

Bondo seems to be different than what it used to be. You open the can and it’s only 2/3 rds full. It thick and hard to spread. The short strand Fiberglass is $30.00 a small can. On the good side, it’s vary strong and seems to be water proof. I have used it for years. Sand it before it gets fully hardened. If you wait till tomorrow to sand, it’s like sanding a rock.

I'm somewhat of a Bondo expert. I'm a carpenter and use it on small or large repair areas for CHEAP bastards who don't want to spend extra on quality wood. There are countless cheap people out there. I've gone through thousands of gallons. Some held up to 15+ years and still going. If you do it correctly it will last longer than wood. Thanks for the video

Thanks visiting and thanks particularly for your reply. My son-in-law works for a custom cabinet company, and they make extensive use of body filler exactly as you said -- on cabinets made of cheaper materials. He said as far as he knows his shop is using whatever filler they have; since its wood, they don't need anything special. He's spent most of his time prepping cabinetry for finishing ... I probably should recruit him to help prep my 56 Plymouth for painting, he's got a pretty good eye! Thanks again!

The USC brand is my go too. Their Allmetal gets rock hard. Made the mistake of letting it cure before sanding. Had to grind it....

That was my experience with the metallic filler too. Only used it once, swore it off, lol. With my previous experience with fiberglass re-inforced body filler, I was shocked at how well, the Bondo product was to shape. And frankly, I have a history of discounting products from the Bondo brand. This was all I could find, but it was worth a shot. Thanks for stopping by.

@theshadetreegarage9144 the Allmetal stays flexible. Of course, it's not meant for skim coats. The trick to it is to spread it on thin and apply it in one direction only. Use a cheese grader while it is semi soft. Multiple applications over a single one. It's a ruff fill in for heavy damages. It's almost like JB weld. Lol
