Shad and Herring Fisheries of the Albemarle Sound and Its Tributaries

David Bennett, curator of maritime history with the North Carolina Maritime Museums, will explore the development of shad and herring fisheries in the Albemarle Sound. The sound and its tributaries were once home to one of North Carolina’s largest commercial fisheries. Mr. Bennett will make special reference to technological development in these fisheries, from their earliest days during the colonial period to their decline in the 20th century.
