The so called white people need to realize that barley 1% of white people own slave s. Today that number is zero. Here some unwritten history . Slavery was on its way out and that slavery wasn't the reason for the Civil War. Just about everyone that died or fought in the Civil War. Didn't own a single slave. The government made the laws against the blacks. Poor people built this nation . We can erase every the blacks built and its will all still be here.

I'm always puzzled at the offense some people take when harsh truths are revealed and discussed. They must be revealed. They must be discussed. They must be understood so that we do not allow them to be repeated. Unfortunately, so many people are afraid to contend with uncomfortable truths. We would fare so much better if we were only bold enough to learn from our collective past.

If I know I haven't caused physical, financial, social, or mental harm to someone on the basis of their race, in a way that handicaps their capacity to function as a fully free person, then a claim of 'racist' against me is as significant as a worm peeing halfway across the world. I trust God, say thank you for each new day, and work on listening and not being defensive by default. It's not easy, but I do not want to be someone who hates people. It's a futile business.

Slavery and brutality literally either directly built or facilitated every aspect of the American super-power, yet very few Americans appreciate the struggles of their marginalized populations or will even acknowledge responsibility that America has to these groups. Years in the future, America will be judged harshly, just like other past empires in history.

Not true. Modern day Egyptians are descendants from colonizers/conquerors...such as the Assyrians a/k/a Syrians/Iranians, Romans, Greeks, Arab Persians. These people do not consider themselves as Africans although Egypt/Kemet is in Northeast Africa. Yes, I have been to Kemet/Egypt (Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan, Sudan).

African Americans built these white universities for free! Africans built their universities for themselves! They wouldn't allow us read or write as Black American Slaves.

The whole country was built by my ancestors, Black Hebrew Slaves!!! Matter of fact, most European empires were built by our ancestors, period!!! But ours will be built for us and by us. And everything that was stolen from us, including our identity, will be returned to us by every nation that ever even thought of putting their hands on us and profitting off of us. Believe that!!! Make Europeans pay if anyone. The Constitution was made long after 1492, in 1776, and took a battle of independence and civil war to forcibly complete it, and so many died in that way, the most in any other US war. Slavery is bad ,but it was usually rich farmers, hence a fraction of the population. Blacks helped this country grow to what it is. Also some states were not here, and some states didnt have much or any slaves. Also, to get the best work done and profits , slaves , servants, workers, had to be treated well to do well.

Your ignorance regarding Africa is appalling. Read the Amnesty International and other human rights reports on the subject of slavery in Africa. Enter the subject in a search engine.

From a Black American Man's viewpoint, computers and the Internet has been one of the greatest blessings bestowed on us, considering our history appears worthless in the public school system. That said,America has shown us the importance of maintaining and keeping records of our history, except for one important element. The Slave ships used to transport our Ancestors, from Africa to the United States Of America. Just we have museum where the public can visit and see all types of statues and other artifacts but no Ships. Do they exist, or is it one of America's greatest lies? Just a curious thought inquiry and want to know the real truth opinion.

Sooo? What's the point? Salavery was endemic throughout the whole usa. I don't understand what all the hoopla is about?. For background I'll explain that I'm a member of a multi racial family. Who all refer ourselves as homosapians. Because there is only on race. The human race. My grandsons are both black. My first cousins also. I have Vietnamese cousins, Japanese nephew and niece. Mexican sister and brother, and cousins, Italian niece. On and on. So my question is what is the point. My ancestors owned slaves. Is my family going to sue me? No. Is the problem that they are keeping it a secret? Pretending it never happened? If that's the case, then shame on all of them! All of my family knows our history. No secrets. Our pasts should be used to teach our children how the past affects our present. If that's the case, then I understand.

It's important to bring up the past so we don't make the same mistakes in the future and so we understand that some injustices in today's society are rooted in injustices from the past. And, BTW, I am the child of Filipino immigrants, my cousin-in-law is black, my brother-in-law is Jewish, my nieces are mixed, but your view is so narrow that is why injustices continue in this world. Your personal experience is NOT everybody's experience.

The only problem with the author and most black people's view of slavery is they refuse to recognize their own culpability in the institution. By the time of the beginning of the Atlantic slave trade, slavery was extinct in Europe for many hundreds of years. Yet rival tribes had been raiding, enslaving, and selling each other to the Arabs since the 700's. Therefor I imagine that the first European traders who arrived on the African coast did not ask for slaves because it was foreign to their culture at the time. They were rather offered slaves by the Africans. I regret that they did not refuse. But the vast majority of black people today should consider that they are not just descendants of victims of an inhumane industry, but of participants in. it.

Sorry but the Slavery that went on in America continued for a very long time. After it was so called abolished it continued and then Segregation, Jim Crow, Black Codes, non voting rights, no education and unfair prison sentences and Slavery in jail by prisoners work for wealthy corporations for slave wages. Police brutality. Current voting restriction laws by the Republicans in all the States.
