"Bless your heart" has many meanings from "I'm so sorry that happened to you" to "You're a flaming idiot but I'm too polite to tell you to your face".

True story: when my former wife and I moved to Houston (from San Diego), we lived in an apartment with another young married couple next door, with their young son. I thought it was cool that the mom called their son by his initials, "J. F." It was literally a few months before I realized she was actually calling him by his first name, "Jeff".

That one cracked me up. Being part Greek my mother always would tell me that Jesus's first miracle was making wine and that when he died on the cross he said something to the affect that he would not drink the fruit of the vine (wine) until he was in his father's kingdom. My mom tells me that that means there is wine in heaven. LOL

And there is actually a verse in one of the Gospels that says, "John the Baptist came not eating or drinking and you called him a madman. The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you called Him a glutton and a drunkard." Which leaves out the old Bible belt interpretation that "in them days wine was just grape juice, really."

I grew up in a small town in Georgia and most of this is 100% accurate. My mom and my aunt are now in their 70s, but they still hold all of the traditional beliefs about women's roles in society. If a woman is still single after age 30 they will say "She never got married, did she?" And if a couple has been married for 5 years or more and is still childless they will say "They never had any kids, did they?" My mom still doesn't believe women should hold jobs after getting married. And yes, any time she is introduced to someone one of the first questions she asks is what church they attend. I once introduced her to one of my co-workers who is gay and she asked if he was married. When he replied that he was gay she just said "You're just confused because you haven't met the right girl yet. But I'll be praying for you."

Yes, I have a crazy fanatically religious aunt whom nobody can stand. Unless you are a member of her exact denomination, she thinks you’re hell-bound. She won’t discuss religion, but she always needles (harasses) by slyly saying at parting, “I’m STILL praying for you.” She’s been doing it to me for 40 years, and it still pisses me off every time. I am eternally grateful that I only see her on rare occasions at funerals. Oh, my family and I cannot have answering machines or voicemail on phone numbers she knows, otherwise we’ll get a message, “(our name), Jesus told me to tell you . . .” As you can imagine our family conspires to keep our telephone numbers and email addresses away from her! My wife and I throw away her Christmas cards unopened, for we know they will contain a bunch of her religious rigamarole.

@Apsorrus von Lötzing Avoid Florida -- it isn't Southern, although it's in the South. If you are talking about cities, Charleston or Savannah, Chattanooga and New Orleans will give you a nice variety. Beware -- New Orleans has a lot of seedy areas, but it is rich in heritage/culture -- it's just not for everyone. Eastern Tennessee is a beautiful area -- Cumberland Plateau, Smokey Mountains, etc.

Even though I'm from the north, I'm black and a lot of black people who came from the south during the Great Migration spoke like this and taught their kids to speak like this. This is why a lot of black people in Chicago especially speak like this. People ask me if I'm from Texas or Tennessee all the time. I have to tell them I was born and raised in Chicago. lol I love this. Subscribe!

There was a genuine warmth in "Ya'll come back ,now!". I found myself using "Ya,ll" when we returned to Australia after our two month tour. We still say "Hissy Fit". Thanks for this video, it really gave me a smile at a time when I truly needed it. Cheers, Steve
