Based on the book by James Clavell. It was also a mini series in 1980 staring The great Toshiro Mifune, and Richard Chamberlain. The story is as epic as it gets and they changed the names of the characters but it is based on true events in Japanese history.

@@MatrixStudioss Certainly but I am gonna hold back cuz of spoilers and nda. This was my first job as an extra. I had missed the opportunity the year prior. Going through my emails I had found the email sent by the agency looking for extras in my spam folder. Obviously upset that I missed it. Emailed them begging if they where still filmind and need soeone that I would be interested. Febuary they sent me a reply and I went in for my first costume fitting at the studio. I was wowed by all the costume racks that filled the place which could clothe an army or village. I also passed some of the carpentry work they did building the sets. I got booked for 4 or 5 different scenes which took place in various locations near Greater Vancouver. There would be a Covid testing the day prior and during. Shooting usually started 6am or earilier. Some of the extras who didnt drive like myself had to meet earlier to be picked up by a shuttle bus which would drive us to locaton. There we would sign in and wait under this big ass tent until we are sent to anotther big tent with our costumes or to where makeup and hair would get us ready. (Dress up was my favourite part) Fantastic hard working crew of ladies and some men who had to be on standy near us to fix our nakeup or costumes. We then got sent back to the main tent to wait and we would wait for hours til we get called to set but it was ok as I am smart and brought a book and my nintendo switch to kil time. They also fed us. I was one of the lower ranking Samurai grunts so I only got a Kimono and sword while the more experienced extras got the armour. The costume itself had many lairs and we had to tie on these straw sandals on. Using the washroom was a bit of a pain cuz id have to take it all of and get someone to put it all back on. What I will say about the scenes I did was that we did a lot of marching on the beach, forest, muddy field etc and often it was raining hard and cold. They did an Ai rendering of us one day and we had to do a green screen. We got to see a small clip of us marching and seein it was surreal because it looked so cinematic. I was like wow wet got a Game of Thrones level show here and I'm part of it. I got to see all the three main actors but didnt speak to any of them. Apparently Sanada had taken the time to speak to another group which was comprised of mostly Japanese actors. Speaking of the show had flewn out a bunch of experts to overlook the show to make sure we looked as legit as we could and I had to take a lesson in how Samurai moved and composed themselves. My last scene was on a set they built of a Japanese fishing village outside and it looked freakin amazing and it felt like being ported back in time again a lot of cold rain that niht Last scene didnt go well I think or hope gets cut I played an Archer body guard for Cosmo but I had maybe a 5 min lesson on how to use the bow and arrow and I had an injured finger. So I kept messing things up and sadly went from being the main 3 out fo 5 guys on the set to being sent back to tent. I was completely fumbling and it was sad and humiliating. I just coudnt make it look smooth like I was Hawkeye However later that night they called me back for another scene. Overall it was an amazing experienece and I got booked for other shows (Monarch/Godzilla). I would never imagine I would get to do this but I went though a period of depression and said fuck it I am gonna give it a shot and here I am. Sadly strike happen and things got derailed. However I am still going to persue more film work as my side gig. Also as happy and proud that i am of this one of the reasons was seeing my parents proud of me and experiencin this with me but both of them passed away. My mom would have openly loved this and my dad would probbaly dismiss it as playing around. Its a bit bitter sweet for me actually not seeing them being part of this big moment for me.

@@MatrixStudioss Sorry missed your response I'll respond now. Filming was in Vancouver and nearby cities. My first day before filming they had to take my measurements and gave me a kimono to try on and then they had a group of us learn how to walk, stand, sit like a samurai. If I recall correctly had to wait a few weeks or a month before they actually called me to my first shooting. I worked for the show from Feb-May. Because of Covid we had one day to get tested prior to shooting day. We all met early in the morning and waited in these tents and then get sent to get dressed in our costumes then sit in hair and makeup and back to these tents and waited for them to call us on set. Often we would wait for hours an not shoot until late night. I was part of four scenes. First one was on a beach where all the samurai factions approach a meeting between the main characters in some giant tent. The experts where strict on how we were walking. It was tough because we had to keep pace but it was on a bunch of uneven rocks. So it was hard not to move my arm to keep balance. When walking we arent supposed to lift our feet and our arms dont swing. Guy in front had to lead a horse as we marched up. They also had some girl take 3d pictures of us for scanning to make AI copies. Second we are marching through the forest and the person in head of the line speaks to Hirokuyi Sanada for permission to pass through. It was raining all day and very muddy. Instead of tents we had to sit in these rented coach buses. It sucked having to sit in it for hours. Our group passes and there are these rows of other samurai standing there. I think our group are the bad guys so there is this tension as we pass by. Third on some local farm land raining as well very muddy. Had a blue screen set up that we had to wallk past. It was on some blue tarp. Underneath was uneven with holes. Again tried our best to walk smoothly. They also had us stand in these booths with cameras that was around us 360 head to toe. I cant remember what else happened that day. I know they where also filming another scene simutaneously. Sent back in tent and waited the rest of the day and did nothing else until wrap. I got to see a short clip of the second scene i was in and I thought that is Game of Thrones level quality there. Time past without any contact thought it was over or I wouldnt get another email until I got one in May. It was done by some docks that got transformed to look like an old Japanese fishing village. It was like I had time travelled there. This time I got a different Kimono from the one I wore early. I would play as an archer protecting the white lead actor. I was chosen was one of the main three guys but because I actually had an injured finger and didnt have much training I kept fucking up the movement of loading the bow and arrow so I got booted from the scene. So disappointed and embarassed. Pretty sure the director was annoyed at me. Sent back to tent and waited and then they called me for a different scene so hopefully redeemed myself there. I remember being drenched and cold that day. Might have been some freak snow that day. Overall amazing experience. I was actually going through depression the months earlier and had signed up to an agency out of a whim then got injured at work which gave me the time off. Got contacted and took the opportunity.
