I think the reason Tails & Knuckles can't use the shield abilities is because they don't need to. Tails doesn't need the double jump or the Bound Jump since he can fly, and Knuckles doesn't need the Fire Dash because he can glide.

That's called a "fuck-up", and it is truly an oversight in the development phase, much like a typo in a six hundred page paper that they undoubtedly missed.

The glitch that caused Matt to die actually happened to me when I played it so I’m guessing it’s common

Looking at that boss now, it looks like some kind blender to me. Maybe Robotnik wanted to make a nice hedgehog smoothie?

I think what killed him in the beginning of Act 2, is right where he landed from that second glide there might be a sort of "Death by crushing" flag of sorts, and he clipped into the floor for a few frames. The advancing wall must have been in just the right spot that the game assumed he was crushed. Just a wild guess. Also holy fuck this video is five years old.

Matt probably died from a glitch in the positioning of the coding of the floor. After those two consecutive glide-slides it looked like he was above the ground for a spilt second, which probably meant that the floor was registered as higher than it was, leading him to be crushed by the ceiling. I think.

Knuckles collects a Electric shield. Knuckles enters water, bright flash, Knuckles is electrocuted, GAME OVER. Oh wait, this is Sonic the Hedgehog, back to the checkpoint

Meh... Hydrocity sounds cooler than Hydro City anyway. Yeah, I said it. Eat it!

***** I grew up with calling it Hydro City. I was too stupid to not get the velocity pun back then, so hearing it like that sounds weird to me. It's like hearing someone pronounce caramel as "CARA-mel", because I'm used to it being pronounced as "CAR-mel" but bygones be bygones.

To answer your question, there's a glitch in that stage where the level doesn't load enough so it counts your character hitting the off-screen kill point. Basically a problem with the screen wrap programming that they used to make the levels so big back in the day.

No Johnny, Knuckles died after seeing how he was going from a badass to being just another cliche that hams it up horribly, so his brain imploded upon the realization that THAT was a bad thing.

It's funny, in the first part, John said he was going to enjoy every minute of Matt's failure, when in reality, we all know he's just going to get really pissed for fucking up one of his favorite games of all time.

Matt, I now understand...your fail is now made of win :P and epic.

Actually, Hydro City (as I always called it) had some weird glitches involving death, even with Sonic, my brother and I would play this and on the second stage with the green tubes, we would go down a certain one and would die. So always tried to avoid the bottom route.

the reason we were better at games as a kid was, we didn't get many games so themes we had we played them to death and learnt all the kinks

fun fact: if you complete a stage with 9:59 on the clock you get the max time bonus. I have no clue why.

I've come to dislike it now, because in the Xbox 360 compilation port, I encountered a glitch in Act 2 after beating the sub-boss from Act 1 in which I fell through the floor and couldn't get up. I actually had to drown myself, and I'm terrified of the drowning theme now.

The electric sheild is ALWAYS useful. Johnny, you seem to have forgotten that it can attract rings. Also, Knuckles and Tails can both transform without having to lose the sheild.

Update! That 50k points for finishing at the last second isn't actually 50,000 points, It's actually more! If you beat a boss while the timer is at the last second, you get a whooping 100,000 points!

We keep getting some technical fuckups with it. Oddly enough; it's been the only game that's given us this much trouble.

Technically, the electric shield does electrify the water. It'll kill every badnik onscreen. I usually don't have it happen to me though.

Although I personally believe that the Knuckles portion is later I do find some inconsistencies with it such as Angel Island not being burnt at the start and why the bridge at the end wasn't broken.

The bridge is reasonable however the zone should have at least suffered considerable changes after being burnt for so much. From the looks of what happened I would imagine there would be no forest anymore.

Actually you can change the level layout in the options (along with the music) for if you want Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles or Recommended.

You see candy cane from checkerboard tiles? BTW, did you know that the stages aren't actual spheres? They are ring-like, "torus"(I heard that's what it's called) shaped.

Also Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the only game in the series that any shield 'CAN' reflect enemy projectiles.

If this is based off Sonic 3 alone then I can understand why you died for no reason. Sonic 3 alone was so rushed that besides the game being split in two, the game was very glitchy especially on Hydrocity Zone Act 2. My favorite example of this was in Act 2 when I skipped the boss and a jumbled up sprite of the roboticizer showed up for like a second then when I stepped on the button the results screen showed up then afterwards the game locked up.

James Williams Also if you beat Hydrocity Act 2 boss while Super Sonic, for some reason he will retain Super Sonic even after jumping on the capsule.

the lamppost stages also depend on how many rings you have when you hit them.

Now at 5:01 where Matt died that happened to my brother in Marble Garden zone. I was playing as tails and the crusher spike thing crushed me and when my brother spin dash to the other side he magically died. I don't know why or how, but it just happened.

*coughs* Did you see how much sh*t Johnny went through? They couldn't even LP it live because of so many problems to the point when Elliot and Matt couldn't continue with it.

only once i managed to beat a boss in 9:99 in Sonic 3 & Knuckles and That was in Marble Garden Zone. The Times Bonus was 100000 and i was just sitting there and had an open mouth.

I think Knuckles died because as you said, it uses the Sonic 3 layout which was more buggy and glitchy than the layout you get from Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

There is no space or hyphen between the O and the C in the original game, so I pronounce it Hydrocity, not Hydro City. The mistake that Matt is making is that he's criticizing other people's opinions.

there was this one time i was playing sonic 3 and knuckles as sonic with all the chaos emeralds and i was going so fast up a wall that i ended up on the ceiling and skiped the whole level up to the mini boss in act 1

You know whats funny the electric shield soesn't work underwater in this game but for some reason the developers of Sonic Generations forgot to put that in so the electric shiel is usable in generations under water the fire is the same here as expected
