You can also just carve it out with a knife if you can’t afford the laser. Always good to cut out as much rubber from the tire side wall to make it lighter and more aerodynamic. Just don’t drive next to me on the freeway 😂

I have never once looked at a tire and thought to myself, "hey, i feel like reading tire facts today."

Worked for Goodyear back in the 70's, had to burn the serial numbers in individual truck tires with a hand held iron for different companies, doesn't hurt anything and wished we had that! LOL 😂

That's a completely different animal. You do this to your damn sidewalk brother and that tire is going to be f***** up. The spot where you're putting the serial number is a much denser area with much thicker rubber and it's designed for that. Side walls are meant to flex and when you burn something into the sidewall it creates a weak point. If you actually work for Goodyear you ought to know better. My grandfather worked for Goodyear all his life and I learned better as a kid

You didn’t burn the serial numbers in truck tires, you branded identification numbers on each tire so they could be accounted for each month at inventory time. Identification numbers are applied as the tires are manufactured.

Most Tire Manufacturers place an RFID Tag in that location so it can be read by the Trucking Company to keep record of Mileage, Repairs and Rotation.

Not sure if compromising your sidewall is a good idea for the “look” but hey burn away and drive it like you stole it right?🤪

About the only use for marking a tyre like that would be in a commercial setting for tracking info on wear as you can mark info about when it was replaced etc. But I wouldn't think that melting into the sidewall would be a good idea or even possibly against the law. Quick way to create a weak point, I suppose I would depend on how deep it was melting into it, but I have no idea how much it would really effect the strength.

If it had a jet of rubber powder that can be moved in sync with laser to deposit and melt rubber in a controlled way that could achieve raised lettering or images with I'm assuming a lot less structural changes to tire.
