Received the 5/2 roast and had a similar experience to yours. The main difference that I and a few others experienced was the prominent smoky aroma and roasty taste in the first 3 weeks. Brewed a cup to sip on while watching this review and that smoky/roast taste is pretty much gone now. I still have a good amount left and look forward to drinking the rest.

That's a lot of what we heard about the coffees that came after that initial 4/22 release and it leads to the belief that Sey probably tinkered with it a bit after that initial release. Reminds us of what happened with Abel Salinas where we (and others) we shocked that they went a little further than expected with it. Genuinely believe there's something about mejorados that gets tricky for roasters (as we've heard from them as well). Appreciate the feedback as always Allen 🙂

Nice review. With this being first crop, I had rather low expectations for this coffee. So, for me, it really exceeded how I thought it would come out. I enjoyed it. It wasn't hard to dial in, and I liked how it opened up. Interestingly, I got 0% fermentiness in the cup. It was always sweet (agave) with alot of subtle yellow fruitiness (pear, plum, etc). I think my bag was roasted 5/06. I ordered the latest mid-harvest release, and I'm interested to see if there's much difference. Cheers, Julian

That's a pretty mature way to approach this coffee because a lot of people really just saw what it was and couldn't help but have those expectations. Have heard from many roasters that mejorados are extremely hard to roast/get right and it often translates to why people struggle dialing it in. While (personally) the mid-harvest was interesting to us, we couldn't quite justify reviewing both again this year. So the original runs will be it (but we'll be exploring it from other roasters). We're essentially relying on you and others to know how the second run of this coffee turned out now. Cheers ☕️

I think personally think sey are on a bit of a second wind, there was a period where many of their coffees weren't to my liking, but the stuff I've had recently has been great!

Strongly agree with this. A lot of people loved their overly acidic lemongrass phase, but they're doing a great job of sourcing top tier washed coffees. Massive props to them
