Enervé comme du punk, implacable comme de la techno et planant comme de la new wave : le son de @SextileBand s’empare de la scène d’Echoes with Jehnny Beth.
À la première écoute des productions de Sextile, on peut légitimement se demander d’où peut bien nous provenir une telle musique. Du Londres des Sex Pistols ? Du Berlin d’Ellen Allien ? Du Manchester de Joy Division ? Et bien d’aucun des trois, car c’est de Los Angeles que nous vient le groupe formé autour de Melissa Scaduto et Brady Keehn.
Mais si leur camp de base se trouve effectivement dans la cité des anges, on ne peut pas vraiment dire que leur musique transpire le soleil, les cocotiers et les balades en patin sur Venice Beach. Formé en 2015 après la rencontre de ses membres en cure de désintoxication, Sextile témoigne d’un goût certain pour l’excès. Les voix scandent, les intrus tapent, les synthés hurlent pour un son qui navigue entre les genre sans passer par quatre chemins.
Leur dernier single « Crassy Mel » en est d’ailleurs le parfait exemple : d’un couplet post punk électronique on se retrouve à headbanger sur du big beat à la sauce Prodigy.
Autant dire que leur passage dans Echoes with Jehnny Beth risque de ne laisser personne de marbre.

You definitely went wild.
This is so great. It has Suicide/Cramps/Gang of Four and most importantly originality written all over it. So heavy . Love this band

As always, the concerts organized within the framework of Echoes always benefit from a super production. Only regret, a good part of the public clearly did not know what to expect with Sextile and the atmosphere remained quite cold. Anyway it should help them to make themselves known a little more and it is deserved.
I love the guy on stage with the PIL shirt. That’s where a lot of this music came from. I love Sextile. What a band
