I like the small sewing projects. Project bags are my favorite! I make them with drawstrings so I don't even have to worry with a zipper. But I also like sewing cloth menstrual pads and waterproof lined bags to put them in (those do have zippers). One of my favorite projects was a lined shoe bag I made for my daughter with some cool spooky fabric.

Something I recommend to anyone with a serger is a can of air dusters and tube brushes. Clean it out after every project to keep it from getting built up. And yeah that one part of threading is always a pain. I was the one in fashion school that changed the threads for everyone. After doing it enough you get really fast and good at doing it.

Lately my go to sewing project is just scrappy quilt blocks. Been doing rail fence & log cabin which can use any size strips and don’t require matching seams up until you’re putting blocks together at the end. Gives me something to do with my hands because I get restless without something, but requires very little precision & brain power when I am tired. Plus I can finish one quickly and feel like I did something. Also been crocheting hanger covers for the same reason. Also about to start unraveling a thrift store sweater because same. And then it will get knitted in stockinette because same.

With your scraps, sew together in strips and then sew the strips together until you have the size you want for a quilt, it’s a big project but one you can do as and when, or if you want smaller - placemats, coasters, cushion/pillow covers or even a small throw to top your cat beds - these can also be quilted and one way to use up scraps.

Sometimes I think i should get a serger, there's probably some new things I'd try if i had one. But they spook me, and I just end up using a zig zag or something to finish the edge instead. Maybe someday I'll change my mind lol It does occur to me that you could probably do some ruffly hems with that serger on stretch fabrics, I think they call it a lettuce hem?
