I wish they would bring home economics back in school like sewing,cooking, or even accounting..I can't even balance a check book., IF I had to..LOL

This only works on a non-fraying fabric. If you have to finish the edges to stop any fraying this wont work.

But you can serge or overlook or use pinking shears on the raw edges before any of the sewing.

I agree, plus the bottom of the zip is only relying on 1 stitch across the bottom to stop the zip coming apart. The bottom of the zip tabs a lot of strain when dressing & undressing.

@@joannewilliams1520 Just to add more to your comment, she also failed to back stitch the back seam where the zipper stopping stitch was placed, one false move by the.wearer and the stitch will continue to break and the only way to fix it will be to pick the zipper stitch, restitch the seam then reattach the zipper. A lot of work which could be avoided by backstitching the seam at the right place in the beginning.

You can zig zag or serger the edges before installing the Zipper

That’s how I learned too. I’m sure in 2023…they got more techniques to choose from❤

Flip the seam ripper over- red bead down. Glides through. Don't do this to thin, gauzy/lightweight fabrics!!!

Don't forget to back-stitch at the chalk mark when doing your initial seem. This will help secure the bottom seem where there is no zip.

When using the seam ripper, the red ball should be on the bottom. It helps prevent ripping the fabric.

Wow, must have been nice to learn this in school! nowadays it’s different becouse we only learn it if we like it, it’s no longer considered a necessity to know how to sew and mend clothing becouse of the fast fashion industry. But I personally find so much value in knowing how to sew, you never know when you might need it, it’s a basic life skill, like cooking.

To a sewer, it’s like “Okay, where’s the new and interesting?”.

Better yet, dont anchor your stitches in the beginning, just sew stitches with a small length from the bottom of the zipper forwards and then do loose basting stitches on the zipper part so you dont have tu struggle that much and the stitchs at the end of the zipper arent just hanging on with thoughts and prayers
