Sewing STUFFED ANIMALS | Making PLUSHIES! #3

Hii! In today's video, I worked on sewing stuffed animals AGAIN. I sewed my own custom elephant plush from scratch by making my own sewing pattern / template.

A tip for cutting fur is actually only cut the backing because it will be less messy, and then you won't have that blunt edge on the fur. You can use a blade, or just be careful and slow to cut the backing only. Another tip is to not sew over your pins, because you can actually break a needle by doing that. I know breaking a needle isn't a terrible thing, but it can cost money that is unnecessary if you can prevent it. Taking the needles out as you sew along is the best way to prevent breaking needles.

It’s also dangerous, I broke a needle and it came flying towards my face and almost hit me in the eye, thankfully I reflexly blinked but I was super close to getting a broken needle lodged into my eyeball…

Not trying to be mean just what I found easy when making plushies is doing the eyes before stuffing and also for ur 3rd one it’s really good so keep it up it took me three years to get good and still don’t think I’m amazing yet 😂

Hii! I don't like to do the eyes before I stuff it because I feel like the stuffing changes the shape of the face too much. I feel like I can't tell where I'm putting the eyes until after it's been stuffed, but that's really just my personal preference :). And thanks!

It's funny, I started fixing/customising bears right before you started this series & I love it! One thing I've learned in my research is that the best way to cut fur fabric is to use snips and only cut the back of the fabric, not the fur itself. It's less messy and looks smoother too 💙

@@anandi483 That's a good question. As far as I can tell, it's more that the fibres separate when the back is cut, rather than actually cutting. I've only done it a couple of times on long pile faux fur fabric & it worked fine!

Thank you so much for simplifying how to make pattern. I'm making Pink Panther doll using the technique, where you just guess and figure out how big you want it. It took a couple hours to sew out the fabric and sew it together in general but I think it's adorable and I'll remember this technique for making anything really. I'm a beginner and just got my sewing machine and now I love to learn and figure things out and see what I can make. So thank you again. Your the best.

hii! my tip for sewing the smaller shapes like the ears is to trace out the template on the fabric then to cut a large square around it. that way you have more fabric available to hold on to when sewing. you just have to cut off the excess before turning it inside out

I think technically a gusset is any piece of fabric, usually along a seam, that adds breath or just strengthens the joints. This can be on clothing pieces, or help with the curvature of very filled up shapes like a doll or teddy's head. I don't think there is a general word for...the intangible, bilateral symmetrical line around the medius of the human head. So you could invent your own word lol.

Would it be alright if I gave you some tips? First, if you want to make sure the pattern will connect the way you like, you can pin all the whole paper pattern together to see if it all connects well. But if you like to live dangerously, then totally cool! And you're actually REALLY good at guessing how the pattern will go together! Two, if you want the plushie to pet from head to back or pet how you want the plushie to be pet, then draw an arrow the direction you want that part to pet, and then pin it to the fabric the way you want it to pet! And three, with long furry fabric like that, when you stitch that fabric together it'll get caught in the stitching, but if you want to hide that seam, then take a needle or a pin, and carefully take the fur out of the seam! If you're having trouble finding anymore fur to take out of the seams then rub the seam with the sharp bit of the pin/needle, and it'll show start to show the little hairs that you missed to take out! (Also, furry fabric like that will bunch up over time, but you can take a pet brush and brush it with that and it'll go back to the fluffiness the way it used to be!) I hope these help! And if you don't want to use these techniques, then that it totally cool!! (Also, your elephant is adorable!!!!!)
