Hi friends! I hope you enjoy this three part series of the Sewing Room Makeover project! This video, part one, includes video footage of the current messy state of my sewing room. Generally, I'm a very organized person. However, my hoarding habits make it hard for me to have an organized system. So it's time to purge my closets and fabric and pattern stash and develop a more organized system suitable for my needs. Stay tuned for the second and third videos to see more info about where I purchased my furniture and to see the transformation. 😁 Happy Sewing!

Hi, When I became overwhelmed with patterns and fabric, just in the nick of time I came across Mimi G’s idea for organizing patterns and fabrics. She has separate videos for each. That was an absolute lifesaver, I have tons and tons and TONS of fabric and patterns. When your space is not right, it’s hard to create. I had a hard time to find the time to fix up my space, but once I got it done, it was well worth the time. You’re not alone!!!

I have my patterns in a IKEA dresser..My husband took some stiff poster board, that has foam in the middle, cut them up depth of drawer by 8”high. They are used as dividers. I have my patterns by categories. Like the pattern book. I have a very small sewing area. So going to IIKEA Dressers and Cubbyholes cabinet is the only way I can organize my room. We moved from Oregon, where I had my own sewing room, to a two Bedroom Condo in Vegas. So I have to do the best with limited space. My cutting table is the dinning table. My sewing table is a Costco table like you have, with a topper my husband made. I also have a Singer Heavy Duty 4452. You along with three other You Tubers have helped me a lot in my sewing and never to give up, even if you make mistakes.. Thank you for all the hours you put in for other’s to improve..

You are very brave to post this, thank you! I can relate. I was a garment sewer, than a quilter, now back to garment sewing. I'm at the present, bagging up the quilting fabric to sell. Good luck with your project

I can relate to this video so much. I am blessed to have a sewing room but, I collect fabric faster than I sew 🙄. I have moved my room around at least six times… I have two folding tables and an old wooden desk for my sewing machine and serger. I store my fabrics in clear totes similar to yours except, I can see through the bins. I am looking forward to seeing your progress. It really does make a big difference in how you feel going into your room after it’s neat and tidy. ❤️

Ms. You are not alone.... I have accumulated a lot of stuff but much needed stuff. I use plastic shoes boxes for my notions a lot and I have the ikea cube bookshelves for fabric. My patterns are just getting out of hand and a big file drawer will take up too much space. Just keep the recent purchased and currently working on nearby.

You are definitely not alone. My sewing room dimension is actually 9'x11'. I can't fit everything I need into the space. Currently have 2 sewing machines, 2 sergers, a 5ft cutting table, & pattern and fabric storage units. I want to add a coverstitch machine and embroidery machine. Thinking about swapping my bed and sewing rooms, but I need to convince my daughter to help me! Don't judge me.... LOL

Okay, so I'm rewatching these because I saw your big reveal video popped up - LOL! Looking again, that sewing box that look like a picnic box, I used to have one YEARS ago from when I was a teen, I surely don't know what happened to it. That changing table that was built for you would be awesome if spray painted white and the top refashioned to an ironing board for smaller quick projects, I know I'm so late with my comment. Off to rewatch pt 2

Thanks for the tip about the sewing tabel. I didn't think about painting it. Great idea. However, we did turn the top part into an ironing board. I guess I should have shown that in the video. 😆

Just a comment about pattern storage, I sorted all my patterns into groups according to type, so for instance: children, adults, accessories, doll’s clothes etc. then in the adult category I sorted into dresses, skirts, blouses, jackets, pants, leisure wear etc. That way I can always dive into the basket that has what I’m after. But I appreciate that you have a lot more patterns than I do so that may not work for you. My indie patterns are in clear plastic document holders with the pattern picture facing out if that makes sense. And remember: she who dies with the most fabric wins! 😄

IKEA is the answer for fabric storage. Check out the apps where people sell used stuff to see if you can find a Kallax or Expedit with bins. They are ideal and inexpensive with clean lines for simplicity.
