As a seller myself (of baked goods "yeti's Yum Yums") I have many friends who have tried the different avenues. Farmers markets work well if you sell cheap items, local shops you can sell a variety but definitely compare the price of space rental vs. prospective profit, Etsy does the best out of the online markets followed by ebay. Personally I don't know anyone who does well on Facebook. And .any people who try to sell on Facebook usually get people complaining about cost (my prices are so cheap I barely make profit and still people feel it's necessary to complain on Facebook although my prices rival Walmarts)

Both Etsy and Ebay have fees, but I find it to be so worth it. Etsy charges 20cents per listing, so you don't really have a big fee. once you sale the item then there is a transaction fee.

Think about a third of your sell price goes to Etsy, so it's not just 20 cents. There is also shipping fee.

@@cangel201 its 20 cents plus shipping, Shipping is a cost that you can get the customer to pay. Etsy fees are the cost of doing business. If you rent a booth or a run your own website, those are fees associated with any business.

@@DesignerNerida I never said it should be free to sell on their platform. I have a store on Etsy so I am familiar with their fees. Your first reply sounded like Etsy has a small 20 cents fee and then there is a fee when you sell an item. I wanted to get a more realistic reply to a question about the fees, that way you are not shocked when there is a third of the sale price missing from the deposit. Etsy also has a credit card processing fee. Oh, and then there is also a $4 advertising fee they take out on top of that, if someone buys your product when Etsy advertise on other platforms.
