This is a quick and easy, 2 piece, drop sleeve, slouchy tee I made in May before heading down for some LA shows, made with this gorgeous dusty blue merino wool knit / jersey (snagged at The Fabric Store on S La Brea before their LA store closed in 2018) and sewn on my German made zig-zag / straight stitch Meister Klasse 101.

Last minute creations in short periods of time is what I love most about sewing my own clothes, so I filmed this with 1/2 hr before I had to leave because I'm a space cadet, and that's how I roll. The fabric is wrinkled, I didn't prep like a saint, I left raw edges, didn't pre-wash or iron (I know this particular fabric doesn't shrink and never owned an iron) etc etc. I'm aware this all isn't the 'right' way, and I'm cool with it. If you like doing things differently/better than me please do them! It's just a quick, everyday shirt I documented for folks who prefer a freestyle way of doing things. Happy sewing!

I absolutely love and admire your use of the word spazz it proves you're a real person who says it like it is I know some people won't like it but it's not as if you were calling anyone else a spazz I frequently call myself a spazz if something goes wrong nothing wrong with the word spazz

I have to admit, i hate to iron more than any other pre sewing, prep step. And since i am a novice, and wanted to hopefully find somebody else that was not so fussy , and wasn’t into ironing everything. I really wanted to see how their stuff turns out, haha. Tahdah. I see it can be just fine! Thanks for boosting my confidence to try sewing prior to ironing with some confidence. Yep, i just found your channel last night and am already sharing it both for the sewing and the music, thanks EllaHarp

Thank you!! I love the freestyle way of just going for it. I just made a linen work dress last night and it was so fun to not worry about making sure every tiny thing was pressed and pinned and darted or whatever. I love watching your sewing videos!

I’ve always been too detail obsessed and I ceased sewing years ago because it stressed me too much. BUT your videos have shown me I can do things without the stress and I intend to do the work dress and T. Actually looking forward to it!❤️😎🐈‍⬛. Thank you BTW, liked the neckline before you cut into it - looks like a boatneck.

I think the beauty of sewing or any craft is you learn the basics and go from there...I have been sewing for years, and always followed the directions on the pattern to a tee, because that is how we learned it in Home Ec. But then after a few years, I threw caution to the wind and started more free form sewing on certain items...eliminate the stress.

I love sewing on the older machines. I learned to sew on this exact machine. Memories of my mom sewing outfits for me from her own full dresses that no longer fit her.

Great quick project! Your tip about how to hem the neckline is pretty cool. I’m going to try folding to the outside next time I’m making a tee. Also, please show us your red boots. I got a little peek of them when you were kneeling down at the end and would love to see more.

Give it a go! It's absolutely the easiest and cleanest way I've found to finish knit necklines. Also the boots are Frye Sabrina's (USA made) and they're dreamy. Highly recommend 🥰

Love it. This is how I sew too and it’s art. There is no right or wrong way it just depends on what type of outcome you want. Structure isn’t my necessity. I feel like if I would stick to the patterns and “proper” way I would have just given up a long time ago. Happy to know there are others out there.... Thanks for the tip on the neckline! I usually leave my neck raw on knits because they come out wonky, I’m going to try this next time. Have a great show, would love to hear your album in 432 someday. You’re an incredible musician. 🙌🙌🙌

I always left my knit necklines raw for the same reason! I kept trying to overcomplicate things by adding separate fabric and got increasingly frustrated trying to make it all lay evenly. The day I realized I could just hem it down with a straight stitch was a total game changer

Thank you for this! I've been wanting to make some shirts like this but I always seize up when it's time to cut the fabric, worried that I'm not doing it perfectly enough. Watching you crank out an elegant shirt on beautiful merino wool in half an hour makes me want to just go do it.

Ah I’ve just seen your reply about your studio. We once lived on a narrow boat on the canals in the UK. Now that was truly a tiny space. I used to lay out my fabric in the narrow 2’ gangway and put my antique handcranked sewing machine on the kitchen worktop, and stand up to sew. Oh those were the days, happy and simple times. Now I have my own workroom in our little cottage 🙂
