Sewing 3 Victorian Dresses in 1 WEEK! (another chaos vlog)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Why did I wait so long to sew all of the gowns I needed for the ball? I'm a chronic procrastinator. But! My mom and I did end up being fully clothed for the Victorian Ball!

Engineering knits is a place for people who enjoy all kinds of vintage and antique crafts - from sewing to knitting, crochet to embroidery I like to try it all. I definitely have a preference for historical fibre crafts, and it is my dream to one day make an entire outfit from sheep to sweater. I hope you enjoy watching me and my favorite companion, Nutella, struggle through some fascinating projects!

Claude, your good, better, best mantra has been a bit of a life saver over here. Thank you for that one. I have to learn to live with good enough or I’d never get anything finished. Cutlery drawer entirely devoid of spoons so no finesse is apparently possible for my current projects 😵‍💫. While I recoup some energy I have to figure out how to get the sleeves on in right place of a crochet jumper, that seems to be a particular problem for me! Attempt no 5 I think.

"I had too much caffeine. Can you tell?" My answer: you have not had enough caffeine until you can thread your sewing machine while it's running.

I would have sunk to the floor in a sobbing heap at the sheer volume of work you thought you could do IN ONE WEEK. But, not you! You made a list and just got on with it. 😮 Never undervalue your skills ever again. I'm half expecting you to crochet that Edwardian lace dress on the way there - in your spare time - in the plane!!

The reminder to go get a glass of water about halfway through is much appreciated, I'm watching this while I finish crocheting a baby blanket one of my dad's co-workers commissioned me for and I just realized I don't have my usual bottle of water beside me! I'm watching through these sewing vlogs and catching up since I haven't sat down at my desk to work in awhile, I enjoy crafting alongside you. :)

First, congratulations on making such gorgeous and complicated gowns. Well done. Second, I am really enjoying how well planned and yet still extremely chaotic all of these videos are. I really appreciate the effort you put in to get as much filming of the speedy sewing process as possible. I know it takes a few extra minutes each time you have to turn on the camera and the mic and make sure the lighting is good, and I really appreciate you putting in that time while doing so much work on these projects, just to share it with us. Thank you. ❤

One time my husband and I were staying in a hotel and I was trying to hook my tablet up to the wifi and after 20 frustrating minutes he asked to have a look at it. He, no joke, took the tablet, looked at the screen (without touching the screen) and handed it back and says "oh it's connected now." I had done everything right and it wouldn't work but somehow him touching it made it work.

Wow! These chaos vlogs have been amazing. Very inspiring - reminds me of the time I made a quilt in a week, on a machine whose throat was barely big enough for me to shove it through in the quilting step (NOT recommended btw) I love that quilt and have gotten a lot of use out of it, but it also was the primary motivator for me buying a high speed machine with a huge throat in case such a fancy ever strikes me again. I'm especially impressed with how much of this you did by hand, given sewing isn't your primary fiber hobby! Can't wait to see the knitting parts next :D PS. A couple commenters have already mentioned, but Google probably responds to your partner because it is trained to their voice. For shared devices like Google Home you can have up to 6 people associated, I think it's part of the Google Family feature - not sure, worth a google (hah!)

U did so much design, sewing etc. plus filming (probably the same amount as sewing) I have to take sedatives. ☺️ since I saw a sneak peek I hope u thoroughly enjoyed all the prep and trip to England. U r a trooper and "young". Looking forward to the final cut.

You have a new subscriber here. 😊 I love this video and I will be watching more videos on your channel. I am working on a knitting project right now. I learned a few new stitches so I am using my new knowledge to make something. I am starting out simple for practice and after this project I am going to make something advanced. I have been knitting and crocheting since I was seven years old. Knitting was a challenge and I couldn't figure out why until two days ago I found out I am a left handed knitter, after I reversed my project I got better. This whole time I was knitting right handed and I needed to reverse my work to adapt to my amadextrious brain. When I crochet I can do it with either hand but I can't switch with knitting. It's just like throwing a ball and catching, I can't throw left handed but I catch left handed. In sports you can't switch hands because it's not a fair game, you have to choose what hand you use and stick to it. People who are amadextrious have an advantage over one handed people. I wish I could knit with both hands. I am literally having to work backwards and reverse every knitting pattern I use. Watching KZread videos for knitting feels odd for me because most people are right handed so I have to think like a mirror and work in the same direction as the video facing me. It's complicated. 😂 I am very proud of you. You made four dresses for you and your mom, that's a big project for one person. Also, I am a workaholic and I understand how you feel. Being a workaholic can be exhausting and you need to learn how to take a break and breathe for awhile in between projects. I have learned to schedule my time in small moments and add break's for snacking and stretching my body. I sometimes find a book to read as a break for an hour after two hours of work. Do everything slowly and in patterns that work. Each job has a unique pattern and schedule. It's like sewing a dress, you build it from layers until it's a dress the stitches are the breaks and stretching in between the building process. Be easy and kind to yourself. Do something that makes you feel happy on your breaks. Also, sorry if I am over communicating I am autistic and I am not sure how much is too much. I just want to share my thoughts with you. I understand you might not reply or read this but that's okay. I am one in a million people on the earth. Boop! Also, I have a cat named Ginger Beans and he is an odd person too. The furry children are our companions and they love the love. I am so used to my cat Ginger Beans jumping around I can talk and ignore him and he ends in my lap kissing and hugging me. He's a peach, fussy and sweet. ❤😂

I totally get wanting to have more than one machine when you're using different thread colours... but I also totally get just wanting to use YOUR machine. I'm like that with my 1914 hand crank machine, I only have two bobbins for it so one's black and the other's off-white because most construction seams can hide the wrong colour!!

I'm very impressed at how much work you've put into this - the dresses look incredible! RE the Google voice assistant - I'm sure someone's already answered this but AI/algorithms tend to be quite sexist - ie trained on the pitch of a male voice rather than anything higher. There's a great book called Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez about how a lot of things (seatbelts, phones, voice assistants, GPS, uniforms etc) are designed with a cis male body in mind and how that can be annoying at best for anyone else, if not actually dangerous. So that's probably why the Google assistant doesn't answer you!
