Severn Valley Railway - September 1993
Scenes from the Autumn Steam Gala at the Severn Valley Railway filmed on 25th. and 26th. September 1993. This was the most ambitious gala the railway had organised at that time. It was the first to feature overnight running, and the first to include 3 guests, Pannier 5775, LMS Fowler 4F 0-6-0 no 44422 and GER N7 0-6-2T no 69621. The event included a Bridgnorth-Kidderminster run with triple-headed panniers (5775,7714 and, I think 7752), while no less than 17 locomotives were steamed on both the Saturday and Sunday.
Several of the locos featured in the video are no longer running, 2968 is under overhaul at the SVR, 4422 is awaiting overhaul at the Churnet Valley Railway, 69621 is awaiting overhaul at the East Anglian Railway Museum and 600 'Gordon' and 80079 are on display at the SVR's Engine House at Highley

Austin, what an achievement both by you and the SVR in 1993! A classic piece of video and audio at 08:40 with the triple panniers. Also very interesting to see Gordon hauling a train - I saw it in steam in 1981 but only running light engine. Many thanks for sharing this. Kind regards, Bob

Thanks for your kind comments Bob. It would have been nice to have had multiple cameras to capture those Panniers in other spots but have to be satisfied with that one shot. One of their best galas from those years

Great video Austin, the SVR did cracking galas back then and still do now. Loved the triple-headed pannier tanks, something that would only be a welcome site in this day an age. Regards James
