SEVENTEEN (세븐틴) 'Cheers to youth' (청춘찬가) Official MV Reaction

This reaction is sightly different than what I normally do because it's such an emotional song! Sorry, I was just totally sucked into the lyrics because they're just that good. First watch through we'll just cry together 😩 on the second watch through we dive into more of the story and what each members' struggle represents. This song is so beautiful!!!
If you enjoyed this reaction and want to continue to see more, please consider joining my Patreon or making a one time donation via Ko-Fi. Every little bit helps!
After so many of you voted for SEVENTEEN, I'll be starting to post consistent SVT content on my Patreon very soon, so I hope to see all my fellow CARATS over there :)

Our interpretation to "Cheers To Youth" MV and each of members part/characters Jeonghan - He thought there was a problem with his vision, hence he consulted a doctor. But the glasses made him see clearer but at the same time the negatives. He realized that he doesn't really need those glasses. I think it's about the pressure of having a perspective similar from others and trying to accept that it's okay to see it differently. Joshua- he was a meerkat at work. He keeps on peeking and looking around, probably yearning for belongingness or acknowledgement. Meerkats are known to be in groups, and get really sensitive with their environment. He then realizes that people appreciate him. He lent someone an umbrella and he received a gift as a token of gratitude. His coworkers also found him adorable like a meerkat bc he often looked around. Woozi- he was a recluse who never went out, similar to a hikkikomori. He was holdingn a puzzle piece that was only half of the missing pieces, probably to symbolize his view of himself not being enough to fit in. He got tired of food delivery, so he got a robot to do grocery shopping for him. He experienced the warmth of the elder woman who helped him. He gathered the courage to go outside and even gave flowers to grandma. DK was taking an exam, some ppl said it was for pre employment. He was struggling a lot to the point where he wrote he just wants to be a rock. There was a caption written on the pics he had saying that rocks go through hard times to become smoother and round. There was also a picture that said, the rock was 1st place in spacing out. He probably found comfort in those messages. Seungkwan- he was anxious of phone calls and always ignoring them. His phone turned into a fish which probably only shows that it isn't something he should be afraid of. He also gave more attention to it when it became a fish. You can see him practicing to press the receive call button using a bubble wrap, showing his efforts. All of these changes happened because they themselves took the initiative for self-help. The Tiny ISSUE club was like a support system for them share their troubles and help them get through it. The tiger at the end was a comic relief, but at the same time, it's probably because the song was inspired by what he said. Hoshi explained at the concert that in one of the tour ments he made some mistakes and the members call him out saying "that wasn't right/it was a bit too much" so he apologize saying "sorry, it's my first time living today too" and then woozi had a moment of realization and started writing in his notes.

Joshua ("Shua") has been likened to a meerkat by fans so it fits. Someone else explained it like this: "JOSHUA is an office worker who is like a meerkat, always looking at everyone, monitoring them. Turns out the note with the umbrella said Joshua Daeri-nim (Assistant Manager Joshua) meaning he must be at least a position higher than most of those around him. The reason why he's looking around is either cause he's a supervisor to them or he's anxious of what others might think about him, if he's doing a good job. He seems to be stressed about it that he even dreams about it, falling asleep in his car. Unknowingly, his colleagues actually support him, even having a Shuakat Club. The note on the umbrella said 'Asst. Manager Joshua, thank you for lending me your umbrella' and we see him at the MV's beginning being rained on. He found a flyer with his photo that said 'We love how you look at us. Keep looking around like a meerkat and we will support you whatsoever, Shuakat!'. Seems he himself didn't know that he's actually doing great in his job being an assistant manager." POLAROID CAPTION: 'With the Shuakat Club' BY THE WAY, Jeonghan said the meerkat was nipping at him the whole time, so he sat really still so it wouldn't bite him! He said it was really very cute, though. :) Woozi has said many times he HATES shopping, so he has groceries and food delivered; he even said in the behind the scenes video that the MV character actually fits him really well. So I think it's precious that when he finally overcomes his social anxiety to go shopping for himself, he thanks the helpful grandmother (a tip of the hat to his own grandmother who inspired the Vocal team's first song "20", as well as to Carats since it's the official flower of Carats) by giving her a bouquet of chamomiles. Chamomiles also represent calm and healing. POLAROID CAPTION: 'My friend who brought me out into the world' DK's pet rock's name is Dodol. He "adopted" a rock after Jeonghan got HIS pet rock named Doljjong. They take turns sharing pictures and updates on Weverse about their rocks, since the rocks keep them company. Perhaps DK is setting Dodol free...a way of releasing an inanimate rock and opening himself up to relationship with humans. (??) I think his line "I want to be by myself, but I don't want to be alone" as he keeps Dodol by his side is the story. (For the record, Jeonghan said THEIR pet rocks weren't thrown, though DK said Dodol WAS in the video with him...but it isn't his picture with the trophy. It was someone else's. So no pet rocks were harmed in the filming of this MV!) POLAROID CAPTION: 'With Dolkyeong, who won first place in the idling contest' Seungkwan LOVES his phone and has said he wouldn't be able to live without it. The caller on the phone reads "Unknown Caller" in Korean by the way. I also can't help but wonder if it's a little tribute to Moonbin who doesn't call him anymore; and one of the last videos we saw of Seungkwan and Moonbin together were them riding bikes...?? As for the goldfish, many are theorizing that it represents a distraction...something to snap him out of his funk and go outside. POLAROID CAPTION: 'I hope the day will come when my noisy alarm is less annoying" Jeonghan realizes that as he matures, he doesn't need glasses to see the truth..."Forever Is A Lie"...and as he enters the T[iny]Issue Club with glasses on, his POV sees them as their characters (goldfish, pet rock, meerkat, tablet screen), and they then come into clear view when the glasses are fully off. POLAROID CAPTION: 'Look directly at it, without glasses' Each member brought their concerns, anxieties and heartaches to the Tiny Issue Club, or TIssue Club, where they were able to talk things out, gain support and find REAL friends. I LOVE how Seventeen tackles the REAL issues of people today, and never fails to give hope, support and comfort. ***Here is what was written on the poster of the T(iny)ISSUE CLUB (taken from a Twitter post):"Small Problems, Big Solutions! (NOTE: Link doesn't currently work.)Note: We respect anonymity, and all information is kept confidential.*** I saw somewhere else where one commented that the members are representing the various stages of life: Seungkwan (elementary school), Jeonghan (highschool/college), DK (applying for his first job, as that's an application he's filling out), Joshua (young adult) and Woozi (older years when feeling closed off). And seriously...I ABSOLUTELY ADORE how Woozi thanked Hoshi for inspiring the song! I know Jeonghan said adding the tiger at the end was more of a joke, because Hoshi thinking he's a tiger is an issue!...so he should be part of that club, too! Yet I still prefer the sweetness of Woozi thanking him for the inspiration. Horanghae forever!! Now...the below are not MY thoughts or comments. I'm sharing what I found under another reaction video as I liked what was shared. SEUNGKWAN is someone who seems to be always on the edge, either because of constant calls or his alarms. I feel like he's got a lot of deadlines to beat that when his phone fell into the fishtank and turned into a fish, he wanted to get it fixed cause he knows he needed it for his daily life but neither a fisherman nor the Oppo staff accepted to fix it he then just made it into a pet fish, even showing it to DK (who had a pet rock ). His one way of reducing stress? Popping bubble wrap, which is probably so relatable with a lot of people. WOOZI, who in real life we know is an introvert and doesn't like going out, has a robot who does errands for him. But being alone only with his robot friend, he eventually felt like there's a missing piece of him as he was doing the puzzle. He tried to overcome his situation and visited the supermarket himself and gave flowers to the grandma as a way of thanking her. Somehow it feels to me that it's a way of saying we might rely on AI/robots but having to feel that connection with another person still gives a different, warmer feeling. AI/technology can be a friend but let's not forget about human relationships too. DOKYEOM is a young adult who seems to be struggling and coping with stress in his life in general. While this is relatable everywhere else, I feel like it's especially true in South Korea where they put value in studying and grades so much that a lot would say, 'Grades aren't everything'. His way of coping is to have a pet rock (who even won a trophy ). On his job application test (apparently like an MBTI one taken when you apply for jobs), he wrote Dol (rock) instead of the answer. In one scene at the T(iny)ISSUE CLUB, he himself was the rock which what he also probably feels at times, that he is a Dol Meori (rock head) or someone whose head doesn't absorb anything/someone who isn't bright. Incidentally, I came across a video which claims that young people in SoKor now take rocks as pets to cope with stress since rocks are easier to take care of. I'm not sure how true this is but the video included a clip of Jeonghan and his own pet rock, Doljjong, so some say JH was the one who started this trend. Towards the end, we see DK throwing his pet rock away with Jeonghan, probably to symbolize him breaking out of his mindset that he'd never do good with his studies. JOSHUA is an office worker who is like a meerkat, cause he seems to be looking around at everyone, monitoring them. Turns out, in the note with the umbrella, it said Joshua Daeri-nim (Assistant Manager Joshua) meaning he must be at least a position higher than most of those around him. The reason why he's looking around is either cause he's a supervisor to them or he's anxious of what others might think about him, if he's doing a good job. He seems to be stressed about it that he even dreams about it, falling asleep in his car. Unknowingly, his colleagues actually support him, even having a Shua-kat Club the note on the umbrella said 'Asst. Manager Joshua, thank you for lending me your umbrella' and we see him at the MV's beginning, how he's rained on. He also found a flyer with his photo that said 'We love how you look at us. Keep looking around like a meerkat and we will support you whatsoever, Shua-kat!'. Seems he himself didn't know that he's actually doing great in his job being an assistant manager. JEONGHAN seems to be suffering from a physical disability that he feels an inferiority complex about it. But during their T(iny)ISSUES meeting, when he took off his glasses, he actually saw everyone in a different light. I feel like he tends to downplay his capabilities and feel he's not good enough when in fact, he didn't really need the glasses. The board he was reading when his eyesight was getting checked said FOREVER IS A LIE. In the end, he also threw his glasses away (in another fish tank) and in his polaroid shot, it said 'Look directly at it, without glasses'. I think in a way, it also gives the message that we shouldn't overcomplicate things at times. See them as they are.

enjoyed the reaction - new subscriber here. Just so you know, the random horanghae is because Hoshi inspired the song. Apparently he said some things that were not taken the way he thought they would by the other guys. He apologized and said "this is my first time living this life" or something similar and Woozi took it and ran with it. I read a comment on another reaction that said each of the guys is a different time in life, yet are using some of their own insecurities. DK is a student who, when in school, didn't want to be there. on the paper, he wrote 'I don't know'. Woozi, who doesn't like to get out, build a robot to interact. I believe the flowers he gave the store clerk were his grandmother's favorite. Jeonghan is afraid of getting older and even has a wrong eyeglass prescription so he can't see the world properly (he takes the glasses off in one scene and can see just fine). Joshua is an office worker who just blends in, instead of standing out. He apparently has a fanclub of co-workers (shuakat club). I can't remember Seungkwan's, however, i do believe that it may have to do with moonbin. i believe one of the last things they did together was a bike ride.
