For me with Korean, I learnt the writing system first because it's called one of the easiest writing systems in the world that you can learn in a short time. Because once you know you can just pronounce things the way they are written, you dont have to memorise thousands of characters and pronunciations like with Mandarin. But learning conversational Korean, vocab, slang and correct grammar is a work in progress - and I started learning in 2016. Now I can read, write and understand a lot of things very easily and I don't actively study, but whenever I'm watching a Korean drama, variety show, KZread video I take note of terms or phrases I don't know and use context to figure out what it means or just use Eng subs to see what that word is. But I'm still really bad at honorifics - I will start speaking in a formal way and then end it informally or vice versa, I do that all the time. Also I don't know traditional Korean phrases like idioms and that. But keep at it, it's surprisingly easy to gain knowledge and vocab when you are casually exposed to a lot of Korean media like how you picked up a couple words in this video! Grammar is what needs more concentration and conscious studying with most languages. Good job!
