Seven slightly obscure C5 Corvette observations

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I have owned a C5 Corvette for approximately a year. These are a few things I found out about the car along the way...

Never knew the last one about the a/c. That center tunnel gets pretty hot in the summer!

Welcome to the world of C5s. Ive owned Corvettes since 70 and I keep my wifes C5 on the road for her . Its a 2000 6 spd with 150K on it . A daily driver it gets road hard and put away wet so Ive been thru all the quirks. If I could ask the design engineers 2 questions One would be location of the PCM ? Really ? the most important sensitive electronic part on the car . Lets put it under the battery and behind the RF tire were all the dirt and water will spray up. LOL . Then theres the cup holder were you punch the drink out of when shifting gears. I still love them and Im really looking forward to doing the clutch ,rear main and drive line in the near future !!! Looks like you found a good one have fun !!!

Ah, yes, the cup holder. I like the cover over the cup holder. Because if you can't use it, it needs a cover.

May I ask,I'm looking at a 2003 18,000 miles, manual asking price 25,400,do you think they are a good car to buy today? Are parts hard to come by?Any recommendations appreciated

I really like the one I have. Parts are everywhere, so that's not the issue. A Corvette is a different kind of car. Maintenance on a corvette is different than other cars. Finding a good Corvette mechanic is the kicker. The C5 is the nicest driving car I have owned. Gets over 30 MPG, too. There are a number of "things to look for on a C5 before you buy" videos online. These cars do have quirks.

@@jaedin716sw I think they are great cars for the money . That sounds like a nice car almost too nice so be careful. Watch out for possible flood damage when your shopping for one. C5s are great Lots of parts are available with variety of up grade items available. . Drive one and you wont want to get out off it - and the drive to get somewhere always seems to end too soon.

Didn't know about the door lock trick, nor the AC high/low feature. Thanks!

These are such fun cars to drive. I've only had my 2003 M6 convertible for 3 months, but it's already my favorite of all the cars I've owned. I don't mind working on the little niggling things - every time I learn something new about the car. LMC5 mod, killed the CAGS, replaced the dead F55 shocks and 14-year-old tires, dealt with the headlight motor gear issue, and I have several more minor points yet to address. Still, for a 21-year-old car it drives like it was brand new, the interior and exterior are immaculate, and I find myself thinking of places to go so I can drive it more.

Sounds to me like you need a brand new vehicle that you don’t have to worry about anything breaking. I have an 03 convertible C5 it’s 20yrs old and things break or will need to be replaced from time to time. This is true with any 20 yr old vehicle…sheesh 😮

Good point about the sun visors. I've heard stories about batteries running down.

All in all they are pretty rigid chassis and hold well with age. Squeeks are common, the car is fiberglass and SMC which is cheap but hey it saved weight reduction

This is not a Hardtop, its a Coupe. I have a 1999 FRC (Fixed Roof Coupe) which is a Hardtop. I have an enclosed trunk.

And I thought I was driving a hardtop. Maybe it's a semi convertible. So convertible, coupe, and Z06 hardtop. :)

@@theparadigmswitch1542 yes. The hardtop started in 1999 and continued through 2000. It started out as a bone stock C5 with less options to reduce weight and cost. In 2001 the Z06 came out with 385 hp then 405 in 2002. Mine has manual HVAC controls and manual passenger seat, No HUD, thinner glass, less insulation (thinner carpet).
