I've seen some instructors not correct their students when they strike the eyes using extended fingers. Thank you for showing that your fingers need to be slightly curled or your be the one being hurt.

@@SirPraiseSun. I prefer rather hitting on the side or side-tip of the jaw, but that requires a bit of fitness and physical development. For the technique method is a bit complicated.

The method by which you do an eye poke can be varied. You could just use the thumbs instead. You could also create a diversion first by attempting a kick to the groins!

Excellent video as always! Your first point was very important, and it's something I first learned from someone else long ago - that it's not enough to simply cause pain to your attacker, because some people don't care about pain. I was taught that you have to think of your attacker's body as a machine, and what you need to do, as quickly as possible, is to inflict catastrophic damage on that machine, to the point where it's no longer capable of functioning as a threat. (Obviously, of course, you would only do this if you were in very serious danger.)

Your late sensei was on to something. It was always understood that the knuckles were for the soft spots in the body, and palm strikes to the bone areas. Ofcourse you could always become a beast and condition the hell out of your knuckles, like sensei Morio Higaona. But who wants to look like a Gorilla that has been dragging their knuckles on the ground!

If you intend to use any of these, you should get some face to face training. Doing any of these strikes can be fatal to your opponent, if you don't do them in the correct way to merely cause pain. These are moves taught to the military, and three-letter agency folks.

Many people tend to use the backfist as a "pop", and follow up. Our instructor always said to make it count- and that's a $6K nose job. Personally, I'd use a ridge hand instead of a slap. Almost the same motion, plus I practice it every morning. lol I use to not really respect the ridge hand strike very much, until I fought a dude who knew how to use it. And I paid. lol

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this man knows how to hurt someone, and badly. He even looks the dangerous part. Yet it becomes obvious that he is not the type of dude to lash out simply out of emotion. He's too smart and experienced for that. He's also comes across with very IMPORTANT legal advice. He alludes to different men responding in different ways to punches and strikes to the face and head. He could have elaborated. Some guys, you hit them in the face and they stand there glaring at you ready to beat you down. Other guys, one blow to the head even a wild hook or haymaker and they go down for the count. Over the past ten years in Los Angeles and Orange County, two men died in street brawls after receiving just one punch to the head. In both cases the men were in street brawls and struck by untrained men. Each man went down unconscious after one punch and died three days later in the hospital, never having regained consciousness. Some of his hand blows are lethal, for example, strikes to the throat. if you have to use throat strikes, you better make sure the guy you hit is attacking you with a knife, a club, broken bottle, brick, any weapon that gives you legitimate legal reason to fear for your life. Some states allow you to add, and fear of serious bodily injury. Even socialist California allows for that. Now some martial arts masters, for example Jujutsu and Karate masters who have practiced their art for twenty years, know how to give strike such as a chop to the throat with just enough force to stop the attacker but not enough to crush the throat. This takes years and years of study and practice. Most of us don't invest that time so if you're going to use a lethal strike, be sure the law is on your side. He has a curious but still effective slap strike. This is not new. The slap strike is not a wild slap. It is a focused hand strike using a slightly cupped hand where the striking area is the outer edge of the cupped palm. Used correctly, it' blow the eardrum of an assailant or break his jaw, either one a knockout. The open palm slap strike is a frequent hand blow in Chinese Southern Mantis Kung Fu and was also used in traditional French Savate in its early years. In Napoleonic France, a law was passed that defined using the closed fist to hit was the same as using a weapon like a club. You'll go to jail. So open hand strikes and the elbow besides the kicks were frequently used. True self-defense is first of all, avoidance, then escape, possible de-escalation, and lastly enough violence to escape the attacker and live another day without going to prison.

Sun Fist to the solar plexus! Remember that when making the strike, your energy or Chi must freely flow like electrified water (through) the opponent during the process. The ‘Intent’ to disrupt the opponent’s ability (spirit) to continue to fight must be ‘visualized’ and transferred into their body and respective organs. You might say to them (opponent’s organs (heart…) in your spirit, ‘palpitate,’ or flutter, or to stop 🛑 if you’re in terminal danger. A quick Tiger’s Paw to the throat will often make them reflex and bend over and while doing so, you disrupt their breathing with an extended strike to their solar plexus. All of us have the ability to deliver incapacitating blows to those who seek to do the same to us. The question is, ‘Do you’ have the mental capacity and or physical ability to follow through with your actions?!? Make VERY SURE to examine and evaluate the local and State laws that govern the type(s) of defensive techniques you intend’ to deploy! ‘THEY’ WILL consider YOU Guilty of ANY and ALL Crimes ‘They’ can imagine, BEFORE considering your actions to defend yourself!!!!! Their ‘intent’ can and often will be as criminal as the criminal who seeks to put you down, permanently. Making $$$ for the ‘man’ is their job!!!! The best and most effective method is to Not allow yourself to be in these positions. EVER!

Thanks for the video. When I practice the open hand smack, I tend to draw my fingers back to ensure that my strike will land with the heel and palm of my hand. I worry that if my fingers get forward that I'll hit with the fingers. I worry that hitting with the fingers would be ineffective and break my fingers. Do you think that concern is valid? If I start to throw an eye rake with the fingers but it becomes a front of hand to the face or vice-versa, are each about equally likely to be effective? With any of these to distract an attacker first, how effective is putting both hands on the bottom of his ribs and pushing as hard as I can? If he's standing in front of a curb or something and I push hard, maybe he'll trip as he tries to step backwards.

Excellent video sir. These are valuable tips, and I appreciate you showing them. I do have a question in regards to the chop to the carotid. If done correctly, will that knock someone out ? Or does it also have a chance of killing them? I may have missed it if you said. I want to be clear that I'm asking because I do NOT intend to kill anyone. But it would nice to know the possible outcome. Thanks.

I noticed immediatly, that you have some fignting background. Most untrained people even don't know, that you have your fingers together and slightly curved to punche with the edge of the hand. And that a vertical punch with the strong knuckles is mostly easier to land, than a typical boxing punch with horizontal fist. Now I have a question: Damadged my second nuckle in a barenuckle fight. Not a street fight, just for fun. I'm a medical professional, so I know for sure, that the bone is not broken. The knukle is flattened out a bit, but even the tendon of the flexor is in quite (not totally) normal positioned. This happened 6 weeks before, I ccan do some light puches with wrapped hand, but it still hurts a lot to make knuckle pushups on hard floor. Any idea, how long this will go, and if I should just go through the pain to make the knuckle even more durable? Would be nice, to hear from you! And keep on with this videos, they are great!
