What absolute exquisite beauty Seve brought to this ancient game. I grew up in St Andrews from my teenage years, with my dad obsessed with golf, so I remember my dad going on about Ballesteros; and in the end as an adult I moved to Santander, just across the bay from Pedrena where Ballesteros came from, donde nacio este talento eterno y mundial del golf. Que orgulloso y que contento estoy vivir aqui ahora, donde the airport se calleth the airoport of Seve Ballesteros, often I remember that. What a legend is now missed in the world, but forever remembered, from the bay of Santander to the West Sands in St Andrews, and what an incomparable talent he brought to the ancient game.
I had this Open on video, and I used to watch it over and over again. Seve is a legend
Always amazes me that the ball had just enough to slide into the hole. And Seve’s reaction…timeless.
What a beautiful tournament.. Great Seve, rest in peace my dear Seve ❤️
He was magical. Also a very genuine person in daily life.
The golden age of golf. Still had Nicklaus, Trevino, Player. Watson in his pomp, Langer, Norman, Faldo, Seve

It's when I started watching golf, Palmer and Player were a bit before but I remember watching the others vividly. I still watch golf but it no longer means as much to me. Woods and McIlroy are memorable but the current crop are pretty forgettable to be honest.

Definitely a great time for golf. The Americans got some competition. It was the Belfry next time when Europe prevailed. One name you missed off the list is Sandy Lyle. I was 13 at the time and my late father took me to the championship. Emotional looking back.
Forever St Andrews for true and knowledgeable golf fans will be Seve on the 18th in 1984. The Matador. Iconic.
What a packed bunch of players Sev the legend
Seve had the best hands in the history of golf. What an artist!!!

I'm re-watching because I saw a lot of these guys play on TV back in the day (of three channels).
I was working on the Brooks embankment on the course......well I wasn't exactly working more watching that, but I was there, what a sight. I didn't quite appreciate it like I do now. Fabulous to watch this back. My best memory was watching Nicholas walk up the 18th. I'll never forget that.
The heritage of Golf is so incredible. We can all take part.
These really were golfs greatest days. Is Seve really ten years gone? At his best he electrified crowds like nobody before or since.

Yes I looked Seve up a little while back to find he had passed with a brain tumor. Great golfer and Champion. I remember those days well.

Seve at his best was the greatest golfer ever .
Seve had the magic touch around the greens. He's one of the best putters in golf.
Seve, what a guy and a golfer 🏌️♂️
I Love You Seve, Thanks For The Memories.
Was there, remember chasing Watson after his drive at the 18th then we hit the Swilken burn ,my mate jumped it but my legs refused so had to wait in line to cross the bridge, we seen Seve coming out the back door of the club house later .
Great to watch, the crowds were huge, super golf, and shows alot that these guys back then could really play. There is something about watching this thats sad, seve gone to golfs heavan, and it may just be me but this feels so much more pure golf. Nowadays the amounts of money are rediculous. There is just something about these years. Great video by the way. Peter allis away also. His commentary was a style all his own. Greats of the game sorely missed.
Severiano un fenomeno ! un hombre a parte !
What a great film. I love golf and the Open is the greatest major.

I like The Masters too, but the links courses are so special and distinctive. No other tournament looks like The Open.
I have a set of blades Seve had, and to hit a 6 iron 200 yards with that smooth swing, I just can't my head around it.
Seve's 6 iron to 17 was the winning shot

Definitely, and coming in from the more difficult side too. Back then Seve was a god amongst men.
OMG thank you so much for the upload! more please :-))
MASTER OF MASTERS.....
My fav golfer
So many shots you would never see today - epic viewing
Really enjoyed that . I was nervous, be he was too . Love seve
Seve, the greatest genius of golf. There are no players like Couples, Norman, Langer, Watson, Faldo, etc., & Nicklaus, the best ever
The commentator at 25 minutes 😂😂😂😂
The 18th at St Andrews is the most iconic hole in golf
This reminds me of an 80’s movie ...

@Poet of the Piano: No, we’re just not all blinkered nostalgic idiots. I’m 43 and fell in love with golf in 1985. Golf has always been great, with fantastic players then and now. Stop living in the past, and try to appreciate the old days without feeling the need to simultaneously trash the modern era. It’s so lazy & predictable.

My two favourite golfers of all time. Tom Watson and Seve Ballesteros. If golf was played every week on links courses, The other golfers wouldn't have stood a chance against those two..

Seve wasn’t actually that great a links player. He won three times, but outside of that his Open record was fairly poor. Nicklaus was the ultimate links golfer. His consistency at The Open was incredible.

@@andrewrobinson8305 True, people are thrown by him only winning The Open 3 times, forgetting he was second six times and in the top ten just about every other time. The Golden Bear is the greatest golfer ever, no question. His record is unbelievable.
Who would have thought Watson would never win another major watching this . Ironically it IMHO wasnt the infamous second shot on the 71st that did him it was the third round. went round in 66 and still missed 4 putts inside 6 ft. Was the best in the world from the Masters in 1977 until this tournament
Seve Nieto Santana los tres mosqueteros del deporte español
At 26.41 seve is in front of a sign which reads SEARCH very apt as he did spend a fair amount of time searching for his ball .
Thanks for convincing David Attenborough and friends to narrate this championship!
Okay, this is an extremely small gripe, but I couldn't help but notice at 4:28 instead of putting a 1 and a 0 in the two separate columns they've provided, they just stuck a 10 in the second column, and that's putting me on tilt for some reason. .....That aside, it's great to watch another Open from St. Andrews, and of course the wizardry of Seve is good for all occasions.
Watson has described how the approach on 17 happened to be on the uphill side of a mound. So he felt he had to take the 2 iron
46:47 La metí!
Love baker finch... a great guy always
You really should take the winner out of the title. The added suspense would send the view of all your Open documentaries through the roof. Just include the names of the top 20 guys for video indexing #. I must admit however, that I'm very pleased with how far greenskeeping has come since the 80's.
Nobody sceaming "get in the hole!"
Seve What do you need to say? Spanish hands and an artist with a golf club.
My foursome used to do golf trips for a long weekend and I would always buy a pair of bad golf pants like they're wearing here, plaid was always a hit.
