Settlers of Catan: 9 Every Game Tips & Tricks

Ойындар

The Settlers of Catan tips and tricks you'll learn in this video can be applied in every single game you play. These are actionable rules of thumb and strategies I use to have a 1200+ ELO on Catan Universe and to beat my friends and family consistently in a game of Catan.
If you're looking for a channel where Catan secrets and strategies are shared and you can learn about the game, you've come to the right one! I upload online championship videos with insightful commentaries and in-depth analysis of 'every game'-situations, like initial settlement placements.
Also, if you want to apply the things you've learned. I host an ongoing Catan Universe Tournament called King of Catan, in which you can play against excellent catan players from all over the world. Sign-up is still open and you can do that in less than a minute.

    ok, maybe should have been "9 tips for beginners..." really basic stuff. some more important tactics are like -blocking 1 player instead of multiple, that way you have far higher chance that the robber will stay there because only one person will be trying to move it, and if someone else rolls 7 they wont block you out of revenge. -dont take longest road too early because its 2 points that will draw a lot of attention (and the robber) to you early in the game, and dont make it part of your strategy. -always secure good wheat flow its the most important resource, and never go into a game without being able to build cities, cities and dev cards are what the games about, people cant take your vp cards or points for building cities away like they can army or road. -small tip to try and do but dont jeopardize your strategy is, if you can, make your second placement on a wood+brick so that you can build a road on your first turn in case you and another player placed intersecting roads to start the game with the same idea of where to go.

    Treeckosaurus Gaming update: your tip about not being afraid to hold cards has won me the past 2 games. I’ve been playing often and losing for about a month now. Always diversifying numbers and with solid gameplay. I'm glad to see my beginner's advice creates some connections. I agree the advice of "use logic" was poorly worded and barely value-adding. In my defense, I just see way too many players Brick-Ore-Sheep strategies or go for army without Ore and Wheat. That's what I wanted to point out. For advanced players, the "use logic" advice is redundant.

    Hi Aleksa! It happens. In every setting there are different values and people respond differently in different situations. My advice is to make it more subtle. Instead of: "You need to rob Blue, because he has the strongest game-plan and a lot of [resource] in hand". You could say: "I think [the resource the other person has] is really valuable right now". People often dislike it when someone makes a decision for them, but with this set-up, you make it look like they came up with it themselves.

    I won my last game by starting on the 11/12 spot. Why? Because they both had ore, and the only other ore was a 3 on the other side of the board. So all I had to do, was to keep putting the robber on that 3, and nobody could get ore (except the player who was smart enough to take one of the other spots on the 11 at the start). My other starting spot was a good double brick and wheat position, from which I could quickly extend to a lumber on a 6. This gave me all I needed. For most of the game, I had no access to wool, but that didn't matter because I soon took the brick port on my 11.

    my strat for catan is to start near the harbor of either 2 wheat per any resource or 2 sheeo per any resource (wood and bricks are good for roads.) from there build a house at a monster or a wheat/sheep farm and hopefully have access to wood and brick (ore comes later.) from there speedbuild to get tons of that one resource and build a house at the correct harbor and just cash those resources. From there make tons of houses, get longest road, then buy tons of development cards/make cities (depends on how u wanna do it.) Then u can start trading ppl ore for 3-4 sheep/wheat 🤑

    0:35 The stars supposedly represent the number of times they are likely to be rolled out of 36 (6x6). But there's loopholes with this since some rolls are rated higher than they should be. For example, a 2 is just as likely to roll as a 3 from 2 dice: 1,1 and 1,2 are the only combinations. So both are equal in likeliness to get rolled but the 3 and 11 are rated higher. This same thing happens with 4/10 and 5/9.

  • @Treeckosaurus

    @Treeckosaurus

    1+1 is supposed to count as 1/36, while 2+1 also includes 1+2. It's weird, I know. I had some math teachers confirm this before replying. The stars in this video are accurate.

  • @louiehext2877

    @louiehext2877

    You are more likely to roll a 3 than a 2. Consider two dice, let's say dice A and dice B. To get a 2 both A and B must land on one. That's a 1/36 chance. However to get a 3 you can have A=1,B=2 or A=2,B=1 That is a 2/36 chance.

    I dont get it why 5 and 9 is better then 4 and 10 cause if u do the math the chance is the same?

    1+1 is supposed to count as 1/36, while 2+1 also includes 1+2 (so it's 2/36) It's weird, I know. I had some math teachers confirm this before replying. The stars in this video are accurate.

    Table talk can be really friendly as well. If you bring it with a smile, it's fine. Of course - I don't know the full situation, but that's my experience.
