The environment in which I do most of my creative work is awful. Can I change it to work better?

(this place is actually AMAZING for creators, much better value than story blocks etc. and you get loads of graphics, animations, music and stock images too. it's so useful for YT and client projects!)

Spot the continuity error.......
I would still love a tour. Always looking for inspiration. I know what you mean about having a space that works for you , and so many of the office tours seem the same - dark walls, acoustic panels, same desk shelf, etc. - but from time to time I see really good organizational ideas that inspire me. You seem pretty down to earth, and I would expect that some of the things that you've done would be far more practical than what I've seen in other videos, plus it would be photography-centric.
For the last 25 years of my career... this has been the most consistent, sometimes pressing, issue as a photographer. I still haven't figured it out. My studio is a tough space to keep tidy, and so is my office. I will keep trying!

Haha!! I'm still struggling tbh, still stuff everywhere, still killing my plants. Just going to have to accept it!
Mister, this was the most relatable video i've watch in a looong time. I'm a full time office girl, and a part time photographer myself. I'm working from home, in both business more or less. I own way to much stuff, and keep adding. This was such a breeze to watch and inspired me to continue with "pimp my office".

Thanks - glad it helped!! I'm still moving things around and need to do something about the new massive printer I've bought, but it still works so much better for me like it is!!
Thank-you so much for this 🙏. I’ve been feeling exactly the same, and that it will be worth the effort to once and for all get my space “right” for me.

Thanks! It absolutely is worth it, despite how much time and effort it takes 😅 Good luck!
Great stuff, Rick. I think we all have to get organized in that sense. It is all too easy to just put things down and then on top of that after looking at other’s set ups, make it even harder for people to get organized…but yes, hopefully this will be a bit of a call for us to get a bit more organized as this will only free up that part of “RAM” in our brain to allocate towards our creativity and in turn our drive to get out more. Again another great video and can wait for the next in the series. 👏🏻👏🏻

Yep, it’s amazing how much energy is drained just by being as disorganised as I was. Let’s see how it works in the long term, both with my creativity and with my efforts to keep it this way! Thanks Andrew
I get anxiety that creeps into the rest of my life whenever stuff starts to resemble "Hoarders Buried Alive" for more than a couple days.
🎯 Good timing for this. Carry on. 👍🥂

Thanks!!
Great video, I have a tendency to cover every available flat surface with stuff, I had a mega tidy about two months ago but its all creeping back. Watched your video and its encouraged me to have a look and how the space needs to change. The "office" was designed for when I worked, now I'm retired I need to reconfigure it for different priorities. Thanks again for another thoughtful piece of work.

Thanks Chris, hope it goes well! It does that doesn’t it?! Only takes a few things to not be put away and before you know it you’re back where you started. Like anything worthwhile, it takes constant work I guess.
Great video Rick and can totally relate. My end of the "home office" room looks like a couple (probably more) camera bags have exploded. I have been meaning to rework and make it into a more comfortable environment for months and this video has (hopefully) given me the kick up the backside I needed. Thanks!

No worries, glad you liked it. No surprise here, but I'm currently in need of a bit of a tidy 😂
Very timely topic and your enthusiasm and candor helps. Unfortunately my space is mostly university home office so the photography and video parts have to live alongside or adapt ... This summer during a few days I tried a bit to follow some of what you did so to speak but within a few weeks lack of order returned. I will try again in about a week when I have a lull in work.

A lack of order often returns to my space too, and often quite quickly. TI'm tying my best to keep it like this now given the effort I've put in! Good luck with it!
Glad to have found your channel and espcially this video. So inspiring... Thank you very much
I like how ya kid hit you with the uni reverse card 😂😂😂

😂 he's too smart!!
Sometimes little things count. My dad was a dairy research scientist back in the day and he used to say If you cant keep your kitchen tidy you cant keep your Laboratory tidy And I think it's true. A messy office probably reflects a messy life so what you've done, I think, is actually quite important. Good work
Beautiful space! Definitely inspired me to look at my own space and see what I can do with what I have. ❤

Thanks Liska, hopefully I can keep it that way! Good luck!
KZread was kind enough to steer me toward your channel, Rick. This is the third video I watched, and I decided to sub. Suffice it to say, I can relate to many things you show in your videos. For now, I'd suggest placing a protective film/mat beneath your chair since the chair's wheels will eventually damage the wooden floor. ✌
Love this! Makes me want to change mine around… again! I get bored of mine so quick 😂

Same, used to change my room around all the time as a kid. Not so much an option now!!
Really interesting topic, I definitely need to work on that one. That reminds me a famous quote from Virctor Hugo: "La forme, c'est le fond qui remonte à la surface”. I tried this translation: "What it looks like is the substance that arises to the surface.” but I sucks at English and it don’t deserve it at all. Thanks.

I like that, I’m sure the translation isn’t far off - certainly better than my French!

Looks terrific! IKEA should be sponsoring! My only question: Did your son clean up his space?

The whole video I looked around my office and saw how I badly I need to follow your lead (by continuity error do you mean your shirt?)

Good luck with it! It was pretty hard to see tbf, I had my haircut during the process (covered by hat), but also got a new tattoo on my wrist, and then re-recorded a load of it!
Where did you get your lamp from next to the monitor?

Sure!! geni.us/WWgY - the angle of the bracket that comes off the upstand is upward which had my laptop too high, I just turned it upside down and it worked perfectly 👍🏻

What type of printer do you have or recommend?
Brother which camera and lense did you use this video because the background is blur with that small space
