Setting up my new betta fish tank

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

1) Heater (Optional)
Is not necessary if you live in a tropical countries.
(I am living in Malaysia and the water temperature is around 25°-28°). If you live in a countries with four seasons, you will be needed a heater.
2) Air pump (Optional)
Is not necessary to have an air pump. Betta fish can survive without an air pump because they have a special respiratory organ called a labyrinth. Therefore, they just need very small amounts of oyxgen. If you are keeping betta fish with other types of fish, then you will be needed an air pump.
3) Aquarium filter (Optional)
I don't install a filter because I do changes the water regularly. (Twice a week, 50% of the water every time). If you install a filter, please make sure the water flow is not too strong because they like calmer waters.
NOTE:
Acclimate your fish before placing it into the tank.
Bad water condition, stress or hungry will lead to Betta fish jump out from the tank.
Healthy Fish: Swimming around.
Unhealthy Fish: Sinking at the bottom or hiding always.

I personally try to offer my fish a good life. This means, specially with bettas, lots of real plants and some companions they don’t attack (Nerite, shrimps). They get bored easily. I would not want to spend my life in an empty prison where I would have no privacy, nor would I wish this life for someone else. Fish do have emotions, they are just more instinct-driven and their feelings are not as complex as human feelings.

Too much space needed for so many bettas. The reason why you buy your betta is to make them healthier and better. The cups are used to sell them in a massive scale, if you use this much space foe each betta, you're actually wasting plenty of opportunitiest to sell other fishes

This actually frustrates me! Don't copy this person. 1. A betta fish needs MORE than a 5.5L tank. 2. It needs a lid because it can, and will, jump out. - once he does that when you're not home or asleep; dead. 3. Use a filter. Even if you clean regularly; you don't just want the fish to survive, you want the fish to enjoy his home. 4. More plants. People talk about betta fish being able to breath air from the surface, but that should be an emergency measure when there's a lack or oxygen. Remember, these fish didn't choose to be your pet. You took it home. So you better make damn sure they have a paradise to live in or you shouldn't keep them.

Betta fish are naturally very playful fish, people here saying there fish have never jumped, sorry, but your fish could be depressed or bored. Try putting a small mirror in, only for ten minutes because too long and it can stress your betta, but this will encourage him to flare and provide him with something other than swimming in circles.

@Victory Tom silk plants? Betta leaf? You can give them some anubias or amazon swords, the betta leaf can kill him if it’s to sharp or it can put a lot of toxic paint in the water. Much more? They are the easiest fish to take care of. They at least need 2.5 gallon, you give them some wood and they could use it as a place to hide. Also is better to give them real plants like the anubia in the vid or the amazon swords it also works as a bed for them. You miss a lot of things, like the water cycle, the anti chlorine. Btw if u put real plants make sure to give them a rich substrate with vitamins and if u could give them a fertilizer

get rid of Mount Everest and put some plants in. You've got a beautiful fish - give it something interesting to do all day, every day for the rest of it's life. You can get some quality plastic plants and your betta will be so much happier. A couple of plant pots with the bottom knocked out and you'll see how curious and smart (for a fish) they are. And without the rock your tank could be just big enough. See comments from Analogue below

Katie Owen you should try get a 5+ gallon tank. They are easier to look after and the betta will be very happy in it. Fake plants aren’t very good but if you can’t get real plants get soft fake plants so they don’t hurt the bettas fins. A filter will help but you will still need to do water changes. You can get peaceful tankmates but you should only do that in a 8+ gallon.

Temp maintain 25.5° and 26.5 C also use 2 in 1 room and water thermometer. Most of us don't put filter but will do water change 2 time per week. CT and HM betta every 3 days. We prepare aged water with Ketapang aka Indian almond leaves, water conditioner and aquarium salt, Stir well apply water pump to flow the aged water to break down all the tap water chemical.
