Great job on the all purpose spinning set up. I’ve got 6 different brands of spinning rods, all medium at different lengths, and I didn’t plan on having different manufacturers, but over the years I just discovered each rod and length worked great overall, with some were better for dropshot, while another was great for smaller swimbaits. I’m not giving brand names, because I respect your choice of Lews gear.

Thanks for sharing that Will. There are definite advantages to having specific rods for each technique.

When would you use a 6’7 medium light

I've often wondered why (at least to me, it seems) more don't use a 3000 size reel versus the 2500.

That’s totally a personal preference for sure but probably weight is a factor

This is sort of a tangential question, but I've noticed (even among some of the guides that I use) , at least in East Texas, many have a strong bias of hating spinning reels. As one who lives there and fishes/guides there, have you seen this bias and if so, what is your opinion as to why they feel that way?

Yes, but that’s a regional thing that I think is changing. It’s not imperative that anglers use spinning for finesse but there is an advantage I believe in the presentation.

@@jamesniggemeyerfishing3432 Oh, I totally agree. In fact, if I go with a guide that I know doesn't have "fairy wands", I'll bring a couple of my own. Yes, it is very much a regional thing. Anytime I go fishing up North, you'll generally see way more spinning reels than bait casters. I was just curious if you had any insight as to why that mentality developed in our neck of the woods.

What applications would you use a medium moderate 7' spinning rod? That's what I have and just never really truly knew what it was good for but it works for me and finnesse fishing for me with use of braid(10lb).

A 7’ Medium Moderate can be good for drop shot, Ned rigs and wacky rigs with braid to a fluorocarbon. With a good sweeping set and open hook rig set up with those it could work well for you. Make sure to reel up the slack before setting the hook

What knot do you use for tying braid to flour ?

I use the FG Knot - see link below kzread.info/dash/bejne/mnWBu7J8oK2sg9o.html

Why do you feel that the FG is a superior to say a double uni or blood knot?

In my humble opinion that is because it actually is, plus I like that it only has one tag end to actually catch & possibly shorten your casting distance

I do not like spinning reels because they are so prone to line twists so i am going to use my flipping reel for finesse applications and use soley the finesse technique. People dont believe me but finesse will catch more fish than conventional setups

I love that salvifical shape behimd you in the american flag colors. Yes, I totally agree. A setup like this is the best. Better than baitcasters. I catch so much more bass on a spinning reel that i got rid of all my baitcasters. Im sure Jesus' disciples used spinning reels for recreational fishing

😁 I definitely am more partial to bait casters but have had a lot of success over the years with spinning. Blessings brother!
