Setting Up a Large Professional Fireworks Display - Pyromusical

This is a larger fireworks display I worked on for the annual storming of the Bastille celebration in France. This particular show happened on the 13th of July 2018 in Saint-Martin d'Hères (France).
I believe the budget was around 8000 € but I am not entirely sure.
Most of the items use din this show are from Jacques Prévot artifices

    Hello from United States. I think that is the first time I have seen that type of rack set up. It is always nice to see how fireworks are used in different parts of the world.

    Just watched a July 4th show in the US and got curious about just how these big shows are set up. Thanks for giving a really clear look at how it's done! The little techniques, like the rebar used to secure the racks was really interesting to see as well.

    As an architect, with more than 20yrs in construction, I paused video on the start, just to suggest that You can mace connection even much, much more stabile with only one angled brace in-between. Better two in opposite angles (like X, or /\). You can use light material as wire, cable, etc.

    Nice setup and show! 👍🏻 One of things we do 1 hour before the show is take a razor blade and cut off all the foil and paper on the cakes. This keeps the area cleaner of debri and prevents less chance of ground fires 🔥

    Fiberglass guns aren't so bad... All the ones that I've seen blow apart basically shred into confetti (the bits of the rack are a different matter). The HDPE guns come out looking like an art project, but they're also a little heavier to have to move around. I suspect that weight and cost are the two main considerations here.

    Nice small/medium sized display using professional shells. Too bad your firing equipment is so limited. By the way, I detest most cakes. They last too long and are too repetitious. But a dozen or so all firing at once as the understory in a finale can be nice - especially if some of them contain salutes.

    Lovely video! May I ask a question, why are the shells lowered inside the mortars with their protective bag still on? Wouldn't taking it off beforehand reduce the amount of mess after the show?

  • @NicolasSalencPBP

    @NicolasSalencPBP

    3 жыл бұрын

    That's true, but there is sometimes residual water at the bottom of the mortars, which would kill the shell. It also just protects it from moisture till the last possible second

  • @buggsy5

    Usually the partly melted bag remains attached to the piped match, which does not go up in the air with the shell.

    What are the legal requirements to do firework at that scale in france? Greetings from germany

  • @NicolasSalencPBP

    @NicolasSalencPBP

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi, In France, in order to purchase and fire shells, you need a C4/T2 level 1 or 2 license. Even small 1.75 inch shells can't be purchased without a license. Everything else you saw in this video (cakes, candles, electric matches and quickmatch) can be purchased by anyone over 18 regardless of how much powder is in each item.

  • @dasistallesmisthier

    @@NicolasSalencPBP Thanks! Here in germany these big cakes and candles would require a license too. Lucky you!

  • @charlessmith263

    @@dasistallesmisthier Because these shells are something like 1.3g level fireworks in the USA, that is why they have these firework laws in place in France for safety reasons. 1.3g fireworks are often used for public displays, not backyard firework displays. And even if you avoid hand firing and fire the fireworks only electronically, fireworks can still be injurious if they are misused. So a C4/T2 license - this is something almost similar to an ATF license or municipal permit in the United States to shoot pro fireworks. In France, a fireworks license would be called "un permis de feu d'artifice." I had been to France 10 times, and I heard loud firecrackers in Paris during Bastille Day at one time.

    Those cardboard tubes are almost banned in the United States and highly frowned upon by the ATF I myself only use HDPE tubes. Not a bad show though.

  • @mguerramd

    @mguerramd

    Жыл бұрын

    NFPA 1123 allows for cardboard tubes. I have some that I treated with Minwax Wood Hardener and they are super durable. So far as I know, ATF are concerned with possession and storage of explosives and have nothing to do with fireworks display material and methods. That is left to the States. Unless there is a publication I’m unaware of.

    Lol you don't know shit about fireworks. They barely cause any pollution and create millions of jobs in poor parts of Asia. If you worry about the safety of the atmosphere, why don't you go telling all volcanos to stop burning and methane pockets to vaporize. Then tell every single person driving a car or working in a factory of any kind to stop, and after that, you may as well tell the world to stop spinning. Take your ignorance elsewhere.
