    Nice and very easy to follow. Just got a Mandarin due to flatworm invasion in my aquarium and I am finding out it is going to need an ocean of copepods for it to survive. 😩I just added a small 8 oz. Pack today to my 29 gallon aquarium but I don't think it will be enough. I would not have purchased this beautiful fish if I had known it is all it eats, but my local fish store recommended it for flatworms.😔

  • @TheSaltyLife

    @TheSaltyLife

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey thank you for your comment. Im glad you liked my video 😊 yeah manderin dragonets are usually recommended for expert level aquarists with a mature system and steady supply of pods. purely for the fact their feeding can be tricky. I personally would have probably recommended a 6 line wrasse to eat flatworms. As they are an easy to care for fish. Ive never had to deal with flat worms i can imagine it being a pain. If you think the manderin will be too much at this moment in time you could always return him and swap for a easier to care for fish that will eat flatworm? There's nothing worse than watching a beautiful fish like a manderin dragonet slowly starving as the demand for pods is so high. But if you want the challenge they eat 1000s of pods a day so starting a culture is deffo recommemded. I hope that helped a little! 😊

    Okay Salty, the outfit you bought your Copepod Kit from must have a problem answering emails from the USA. Since they don't reply to my emails, I have a couple of questions concerning an established farm. (1) Once the pods are in the farm and reproducing, is there a need to ever perform a water change or do I just keep adding RO to keep the salinity at 1.023? My farm will be approximately the same volume as your farm, approximately how much phytoplankton do you feed per 3.75 Liters? Thank you for your advise and I've now binged watched all of your videos.

  • @TheSaltyLife

    @TheSaltyLife

    3 жыл бұрын

    hey. Oh thats annoying. Dont see why they dont reply to emails. Water changes only need to happen about every 2-3 months. When the water starts to smell or starts getting lots of tiny bubbles around the edge of the water surface, a water change is needed. (Another reason to change the water is if you start to notice depletion in the number of rotifers/copepods for no apparent reason. (Most likely, the ammonia level is too high.) You need to feed your culture when the water starts looking clear. And you should feed enough that your water is a light green. Not dark green. If you over feed you can crash you whole culture. You will slowly get used to how much and when. I dont know specifically how many ml of feed per litre of water in the culture. Just go by the colour. If it looks like its clear and when you look top down into the water with a light (torch) you can see the bottom.. your culture needs feeding just remember light green is good dark green is too much feed. Hope this helps 😊
