I'm surprised there are not more videos of building box lens cameras. I was able to build a full hard camera after watching this, it helped a ton getting detailed but also understandable explanations like this. Thank you!
I REALLY ENJOY THIS TRAINING SECESSION , UNCLE KNOWS HIS CAMERA SETUP AND TRIPODS.
Thank You .. You Are A Saviour !! IN most Film Schools in India They Don't teach you about using a box camera lens
Glad I found this like the way he’s teaching real old school
I am so happy with the youtube's recommending algorithm rn.
This is very well done. The man knows his stuff.

maybe, but he is soo lazy, he won't get off his arse, and get stuff?, prick?, who knows.
Guy knows his stuff and a good teacher. I worked at the company that would have supplied the Long Lens and camera for this VER. Video Equipment Rentals which is unfortunately not around anymore.
This video is a treasure
Where is this? Who's the man? It's so interesting, dude
Not bad only thing y'all didnt touch on is the image stabilizer controls!
yeah, at 37:25 thats smart, so you, the operator are lower than the lens, so when the SWAT sniper is aiming at the lens, He shoots through the lens, but Misses YOU!! (so you live to film another day!).
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
Great video! Hello from Local 8 !
That is my dream camera
I never really understood why these box lenses doesn't have a microphone support. You always see a shotgut mic taped or with an elastic clouth which immediately converts it to ominidirectional mic.
I like this guy the students aren't the youngsters you usually get, I rig a bit different, zoom left focus right the way you do it the first day is the way you always do it. The cable is a beldon cable not used now but reliable mechanical connection. I like the way he routes the fibre never thought of that but triax is not so flexible thanks for the video.
Bravo. A rare masterclass on how to do..... To the box to the shoot. Thank´s a lot. Do you have more lessons? Regards from Argentina

les explico de todo...menos como hacer el ajuste de balancear la camara con la cabeza del tripod...........saludos de tijuana mexico.
With the amount of grey on these guys heads I would hoped could do this with their eyes closed.
anyone seen where my Bazzooka went?-oh here it is!!, now I have to find where the rockets go in!
I need workshop how can i join sir ?
Definitely good tutorial, unfortunately, the cameraman has NO idea where to set his shot; he missed at least in 4 occasions the instructions, takes forever to check focus and zoom into the action
Get this goateed teacher’s pet out of there. Unhelpful, petty, inexperienced, and more worried about pointing the finger than getting the job done correctly and safely.

You don't know anything what you are taking. His name is Dick Reizner, the legendary videographer who has taught video production, written in magazine's abd books, and probably something you may know, comes from him in the first place. He was quite famous in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Has filmed most famous people as DP and being in countless of high end productions. You don't know him because you are just a newcomer to this business just shooting with HD, 4K cameras without knowing the in and outs of how all this started.
You should never - ever connect the lens cable to the camera before the camera is on the snatch plate which itself should be attached to the cradle mount. One slip and you can destroy the camera cable port and the cable connector or both. Much safer at this stage before offering the camera to the lens, a slight right twist of the camera enables the lens cable to be connected easily. But before all that - screw the snatch plate on and push it towards the lens, if it doesn't reach then you need to relocate the snatch plate further back until it will slide up. Now you can put the camera on knowing it will reach the lens port though it may need the height adjusting in order to lock it to the lens. BTW, anyone using a manual focus on a box lens will never forget the experience. Expect 2-3mm of play each way before you get a focus point, dreadful device.

There is no fundamental difference between SD lenses and the latest 4K lenses. However, there is a difference between the physical state of old and the latest state after 30 years of use, and that affects the image quality. For example, dust and mold on the lens, or loose fasteners, which can cause aberration, can reduce image quality. As a director and photographer, I love the quality of DAGOR lenses made 100 years ago, but they produce better image quality than newer lenses. Please note that. from s.korea
