Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hey guys I am going to be showing y'all how to set up just a basic hedgehog bin cage today. Like I said in the video this is just above the minimum size requirements for a hedgehog cage, and bigger is always better!

I just got my hedgehog today and his name is Toby. He is 7 weeks old so he’s still pretty small and this helped me a lot. I’m good on most of the stuff but i had no idea about the heating that they need! I also got to small of a wheel and as he grows, he might even need a bigger cage.

In Germany you can get a fine up to 50.000 Euros if you remove a hedgehog from their natural habitat. It is only allowed temporarily if they are sick, wounded or underweight in early winter. They easily walk kilometers each night so each inside habitat is very small. I found an underweight hedgehog today and put it in a plastic tub. It tried to get out. I found a place to take it where they know what to do. Maybe he will be returned to us so he can hibernate in our garage.

I just got my new baby yesterday, and he needs some cage upgrades ASAP. So I am going to do your bin idea, but I had a few questions. How do you clamp the lamp safely? I have cats and dogs and dont want them to get burned, nor want the bin to melt. Thanks! Also, what food do you recommend for those in the US for hedgehogs, safe toys, and treats?

Are they actually liter trained? Or is that pan just to help cleanup since they go more often while on the wheel? Also is there a way to add more protection to bin so you dont have to get a new bin that often ?

What type of bulb , heat emitter and do you use it all day? And with that 110 qt tote the hedgehog can’t climb out? I have seen people cut a hole in the top and add like wire to the opening. . So no bedding is needed? Like a paper hamster type bedding ?

I have a few questions if anyone could answer them for me :) 1. How often should I clip its nails? 2. Would it be safe for me and the hedgehog for it to live in my room? I’m a very heavy sleeper but I’m worried about the smell could I get sick from the hedgehogs smell assuming I take good care of the cage? 3. Will there even be a smell if I keep the cage clean? 4. Roughly how often do you clean your cage? 5. What food brand do you recommend? 6. It’s become very clear to me that it’s deadly if hedgehogs cages are too cold because they will try to hibernate, so that brings me to wonder do hedgehogs need to hibernate in the winter or should they never ever hibernate? Thank you if you read this, I hope you and your family are safe! Update: I have a pet hedgehog!! I got him about about 7 months ago and his name is Apollo!

  • @fairyskvlls

Hii :) I'll try answer your questions for you! 1. Clip its nails once it becomes long, I'd suggest searching up videos to get an idea! 2. It should be fine for you to live in the same room as your hedgehog, once you keep the cage clean your hedgehog won't really smell bad! They're pretty clean animals 3. There should not be a smell if the cage is kept clean 4. It all depends on how messy your hedgehog is, since they're clean animals you may only have to do it once a week or every 2 weeks! It varies from person to person 5. Use any high quality cat food! Once the protein is over 20% and fat is between 5% and 15%! 6. Hedgehogs should never hibernate, no matter what time of the year! It could be fatal for a hedgehog if they do I hope I was able to help answer your questions! I'm not an expert but I've done a good amount of research, I suggest researching some stuff if you're a bit confused still! There are a lot of great websites that can help out! I'd suggest watching Tori Lynn as she has a lot of great videos on hedgehog care :)

Nice info! However I wouldn’t use or recommend fleece, fleece gets stained, nails can get stuck, it doesn’t allow borrowing! I find that hedgehogs love to make borrows just like other small animals! My girl has around 10 inches of substrate and all she does is borrow! Also! For the heating you will need a thermostat as well!

I used to use aspen shaving but switched to fleece, i have a Pom Pom pit for mine to burrow In since he loved to burrow and for the fleece just change it frequently and it won’t get to dirty, I never had a problem with nails getting stuck either

How does the heat stay in if there’s no lid with like a mesh? I understand that the heat emitter is above the igloo but how does it stay in there and where do you put your thermostat and thermometer just wondering cause I might use a bin cage.

I’m really so tempted to get a hedge hog! I have lots of indoor space snd a £500 budget to buy a nice cage, bedding, hay, toys, food etc. Only things I’m worried about are 1. My landlord and 2. Having no lawn or grass for it to roam. They are so cute and I already have a cute, well-looked after hamster 🐹

You could take them outside but make sure to section out place, and do not leave them unattended, they will wonder off and escape the area if there are any holes to slip through.

@@alleygraves6786 what a load of rubbish. Hedgehogs have three major predators, badgers, very big owls and the worst by far is HUMANS. Hedgehogs are not toys, they are wild animals. Very cute yes but not letting it roam outside has to be the stupidest comment or thought you could have. Keeping it locked up inside is stupid, disgusting and … illegal in many civilised countries.
