Setting Hobie Kayak For Surf Launch To Chase Tuna

Спорт

The layout of this Hobie Revo offers some challenges to carrying rods and tackle in surf launches so the goal for this tuna Tuesday kayak fishing session was to see how my set up and compromises would stand up to the challenge - you can read more about this setup and all the gear in the blog below - www.railblaza.com/blog/how-to...

The problem I have surf launching my Hobie Revolution 13 is that it doesn’t track straight! So I will usually wade out waist deep, lock down my rudder, plug in the Mirage Drive, and peddle my way out after waiting for a lull between sets!🎣😃

Have to agree and thats how I also do it if launching smaller surf where the paddle is not essential

Well done on the hobie. A bit harder getting out through the surf but once there hard to beat a hobie for chasing the fish down and having control of the kayak.

Couldn't agree more, revo 16 with turbo fins is a rocket for chasing down tuna schools

I have the Revo 16 and love it out on the ocean but can see that all Hobies suck compared to the Stealths for beach launching

Great video ...lot to learn for me, great advice here . I've got a Hobie Outback, the older 2015 model. I've been Kayak fishing in New York waters for 6 or 7 yrs but never launched through the surf yet. The Outback is super stable with its 33" wide hull, but i don't know how it will react if i get sideways in the surf. I should prepare to get flipped i guess during practice and see. In this video you're using both peddles and paddles for steering. At what point do you engage & the peddles rudder .

Great vid mate, I assume your rudder up for launch? Once change to drive power just rudder with the paddle until past the breakers? I’m yet to try a proper surf launch in the revo 13....those G holds look the goods for my rods 👍

@@PaddleGuy1 Hi, after watching your video "Hobie Kayak Will It Surf? 1st Trial in the surf" I was impressed, but I have a PA14, and live in Vic, so at the end of Feb this year a group of us went to South west rocks (NSW) in to the bay there was a large bar and this created a break so we had to pedal around it to avoid the break, I don't mind going out through a small break but on return I thought about your video ;) now there wasn't a lot of power in the break but I was in a PA14 so scary non the less, I packed everything away and went for it, just like in your video it worked and from then on the trip in was sweet thanks for your lessons, now im going to trade the PA for an outback as this will be more suited to surf launches

@@petereaton6740 awesome and thanks for the feedback. I know that bar well as have spent some time there - there were a couple of guys with us using the Outback and they went the long way around to avoid that bar. Grant the local legend manages very well in that place using his Hobie but I cant recall if its the older outback or the revo 14 that he uses

@@PaddleGuy1 Grant uses a revo 13 and has the bixbe motor to help, great guy, I'm hoping to get backup there again next Feb-March covid willing lol but might have the outback by then.

Still feels a little weird at times to me also - its the Revo 16 and yep its narrow, little bit twitchy in the rough but quick

Revo 13 will be the next best option now the 16 has been pulled from production although there are plenty of the 16 that will circulate on the 2nd hand market for years so still useful info to many. Got some footage of my beach returns on other trips to share, not as pretty as the paddle kayaks but still come back in without a turtle so far
