As a screenplay writer, there’s a true fear of one’s writing being less than one’s vision

@@larzguy3714 What he means is, using this video as an example, Seth's ideas here at the end of feeling torn between two groups of friends, not knowing who is influencing you better is a very clever, deep idea. Him pitching that idea is stronger in some ways than the way he ended up executing it. That happens all the time. I'll come up with a great concept then finish the script and feel like I could explain it to a person better than I was able to represent it through visuals and dialog. Doesn't matter whether you are in full creative control or not. It's always a challenge to get your idea represented right.
As a screenplay writer, I don't really have a set vision before I start writing. There's a vision there, but it's never fully concrete. So, I just start writing and let the vision find itself. Allow your script to breathe.

That’s good advice. I definitely talk about my ideas & build them up in my head to be so cool then write for only 10 minutes. I need to do what he said about not treating ur idea like they are so precious

Write the idea down while you think about it. Seriously. Open up the Notes app or just email yourself if that's easier. Just write it down as you think about it. That way you're able to play it out as you come up with it, and it leads to more ideas as they come. And now you've done half the work. The rest is to simply form it into something proper.
I love how Sam Jones seems genuinely amazed by the things Seth is saying.

Here is an idea. Seth Rogen teams up with Netlix or some other streaming service to create a show, not unsimilar to a Jerry Seinfeld "cars getting coffee" show, or the Hot Ones progressively hotter hot wings show, where Seth Rogen smokes blunts with people in different creative ways and they just have chill conversations about life. It could be called "Smoking with Rogen"

that'd be dope. Seth could have a show like that making pottery and smoking pot with other celebrities, although I doubt he would want to mix his hobby he enjoys and make it a show/job. Snoop said he wanted to make pottery with Seth at his house on the stern show months back when they both appeared on.
man i needed this today, I have the biggest issue in revering my own work to the level of making it too important than it really is.
"It's too elevated, it's too revered and what's good about writing 100 ideas is it takes a lot of the reverence out of putting words on the page." That was one of the things I loved about the music of Amy Winehouse. It was stripped of all preciousness. #OffCamera

a work being precious and a writer feeling his work is precious are two different things
This seems like a realistic look at how to deal with ideas and how the ones that stick after years are the ones that are pursued.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
No amount of writing talent or craft will replace networking and knowing the right people. I've read scripts in production that would have never got to a producer's desk. The whole thing is rigged, sure, you can be the best writer in the world, but even that isn't much of a guarantee to even be considered. Just write for the love of it and never expect success. The stars may align at some point if you're lucky enough.
@ghostforthemost6027
2 жыл бұрын
i disagree, if you write, create and show the world or at least whoever you can your work, you will inevitably find networking opportunities to build upon your craft and career. just because the idea of success in the business is difficult, does not make it impossible.
This video proves that Seth truly is just a humbled, selfless, down to earth, real guy. And it also shows just how HA-larious he really is. Don’t forgot to purchase your copy of, “My Life as a Barnacle”, the new autobiography from Seth Rogaine - He’s out now!

i’m going to be a movie director i’m coming up with some great ideas people keep telling me it’s great and i need to write it
Sam Jones is an amazing interviewer
When you speak from the heart you don’t have to do too much
The pot head persona he often projects gets on my nerves. But when he talks like that about his craft I could listen to him for hours.
***details about Seth’s upcoming book, “Cruising”, his follow up to “Barnacle” - Rogaine writes, “...’Cruising’ is a love story to my childhood imagery friend, and my lover, who also happens to a personification of my own alter ego, as well as being my super hero, Baby Huey.” “Cruising” is sure to have readers clutching at their seats, and running to the hills, so that they can use it behind a tall bush where hopefully no is one around to see them. *** all of Seth’s books, including, and especially, “Barnacle”, and “Crushing” are gentile, safe, and comfortable to the touch as they’re printed on thick, cushiony, quilted two-ply paper so that even though you’re throughly disgusted with yourself, you’ll still be able to feel fresh and clean after using them.” *Seth has dedicated both books to his friends, since he too, feels fresh, and clean after using them.
My dream is to write a movie and i am 27 fkn years old .I decided today to start working on this project .so i will keep learning and have a fresh life.shootout to all who keeps coming back And start fighting on their dreams.
I'm torn with Seth because I don't like some of the stuff he does, and he can be annoying, but at the same time, the stuff I do like, I absolutely LOVE.
I have ADHD and a huge fan of motion pictures, but I’m picky asf when it comes to movies. I look for realism and action. I never thought about screen writing but I’m not gonna lie I’d be coming up with movie ideas non stop and believe that they would do really well I just don’t know how to write it down on paper. A goal I have is to at least make one of these ideas a reality.
Step one: smoke weed every day
The Ernest Hemingway technique works quite well, just don't take it too far or you risk losing productivity.
how'd they get this on youtube
Oh man, that laugh.
Stephen King says the same thing about which ideas become a book, and how, as Seth says about which ideas become a movie.

I wrote a movie, but I don't know what to do with it, is there any place I can send it, is there any way I could get an income. I would like some advice here.
To clarify what I think are Seth's points: early on in your career, it may be useful to dump shit on a page. Next level is brainstorming sessions. Next level is writing over talking, especially when in a room. Next level is incorporating writing feedback from another brain. Throughout this, you have a friend or group that you're ongoingly creating with while following the natural progression of the story.
