Set Up Windows 11 With Only A Local Account
Ғылым және технология
➕ Setting up a Windows 11 machine without a Microsoft Account is possible, just not in the least bit obvious.
➕ Windows 11 with only a local account
To set up Windows 11 with only a local account, select “Set up for personal use” during setup, then “Sign in” at the Microsoft account prompt. Enter “no@thankyou.com“, or the email address of any locked Microsoft account, as the email, a random password, and proceed despite the error. You can then create a local account with a username, password, and security questions.

is this still an option if i only have a digital key for windows? my guess is that as soon as i activate with my real microsoft account, it will change the login type additional question: i just purchased an nvme drive and plan to have a clean windows install on it. will i be able to duel boot from my current drive? (so that i can access anything i currently have installed and setup while i am transferring across). even if it isnt a proper duel boot and i have to change the boot drive in bios each time i want to access it, that would be fine. Microsoft does "encourage" using the Microsoft account when you sign in to other services, so I would assume activation counts as well. However it's always been an option, so be careful to watch the messages and options available as you do so.

Now I can login with my Microsoft account without having to use One Drive, now everything is saved locally on the laptop.

What gets synced in case of a Microsoft account? If one does use a Microsoft account (e g. Hotmail), does it sync properly moving on, meaning all the info like Profile Photo, Account name etc will be in sync between PC and web? Also, why do people recommend setting up PC with a local account instead of a Microsoft account? I don't think in Windows 10 it's difficult setting up a local account. Why it's different in Windows 11?
@askleonotenboom
4 ай бұрын
If you use a Microsoft account things like profile pictures and such get synced. Signing in to Hotmail is separate, unrelated to how you sign in to Windows. Some people don't like the additional intrusiveness of a Microsoft account, or the way Microsoft is pushing it so hard.
@NoEgg4u
4 ай бұрын
"I don't think in Windows 10 it's difficult setting up a local account. Why it's different in Windows 11?" Correct. But in Windows 11, Microsoft has made it more difficult to circumvent their insistence that everyone use a Microsoft account. "Also, why do people recommend setting up PC with a local account instead of a Microsoft account?" Many people (myself included) do not want to be at the mercy of a Microsoft server. If Microsoft should have a service outage, and you can't get a green light from Microsoft when you are logging in, you could get locked out of your own computer. If you have no internet service, perhaps due to an outage in your area, you do not want to get locked out of your own computer. Yes, you will still be able to login. But for how long, or for how many times, before Windows deem it that you must get permission from their servers? Microsoft will collect even more of your personal data from your computer, when you sign in to a Microsoft account. It is none of Microsoft's business (or any stranger's business) when you login to your computer. Microsoft appears to be moving to a "You own nothing" business model. They push their Office suite, via a rental. Now they are working towards you renting your operating system, where you need their permission to use your own computer that you paid for (you paid for the hardware and for a Windows license, and yet you still need Microsoft's permission to login). With a local account, you will never be locked out of the computer and operating system that you paid for; that you own. By the way, our host created a local account, which by default, is an administrator account. I recommend that you then use that account, to create yet another account; a standard user account, and never use the administrator account again, except for a rare need. Using your computer with administrator privileges can cause you to inadvertently mangle your computer, because you will have permission to make egregious mistakes.
@Drew1903SG
2 ай бұрын
#3. Because Windows has tightened things up to not allow people to get away with these signanigans. #2. Nobody ever should recommend that. #1. Yes. Once you sign in with your MS Account everything syncs straightaway.
So if those services require a sign in, what do you give them?
@askleonotenboom

Username and password for those services. Perhaps I'm missing something about your question?
yes, but how about a new laptop with win11 already installed..how do you not have to set up a microsoft account?
So just not connecting to the internet doesn't work anymore? On the Windows 10 you could bypass all this by just choosing not to connect to wifi/internet in that question where it asks you to pick an internet connection.

the biggest problem whit the security questions are that its 6 out of 6 easily googleble questions. Like I remember when I at a company where my user is my first and sure name and on the password creation was meet whit please insert 3 security questions. all 3 been easily googleable. thats a masive problem I say. now If and I seen many other places where that's the solution of write 3 questions and 3 answers. Ай бұрын
In theory, though I'm hearing reports that the specific technique I use might not work any more.
Found the new workaround on Reddit. Perform the following steps before the KZread procedure. Setup Windows 11 until you get to the Microsoft Account creation screen. Press the Windows + R keys to open Run dialog, then type "ms-settings:recovery" (you might need to click around to get the Run Prompt to appear) Select Reboot Now on Advanced Startup option. The unit will reboot to recovery mode. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart. This gives us access to the advanced options during restart. Once the Advanced Options appear, select option 7 - Disable Driver Signature Enforcement. The unit will reboot back into OOBE with the ability to use CMD. Follow Instructions from above Video
Well, it looks like it doesn't work anymore. It goes back to reset password and not give you the option for next. Microsoft continues to force you to do what they want and not what you need.
This does not work on a new HP Windows 11 Home pc as of 05/08/24. Once you enter the incorrect password it kicks you back to the sign in page asking you to enter e-mail address again....... FU MS!!!
