ah dang, I tried installing the Unity for VSCode package right when it first released but never got it to work so I uninstalled it. Didn't think it was because I didn't remove the old VSCode Editor. Will try it later today, thanks for the informative video, really needed it.

To anyone having the Errors with "project convert" for .csproj files: Uninstall 'Visual Studio Code Editor' package, make sure 'Visual Studio Editor' packages is present and up to date. IF you cannot remove or update them due to dependency, remove 'Engineering' feature (it's a package collection for different IDEs) in package manager and try again. Be sure to repeat the steps @ 1:11 and regenerate files again. Restart VSCode.

I use to use unity 2022.3.9f1 where everything worked well and then switching to 2022.3.29f1 started my issues. 1. It doesn't show up errors. 2. The general settings for Layout (such as curly braces on same line) are back to VSCode defaults... Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks for the video! It has always been a problem to get it to work properly but not it works. The only thing is that for some reason Unity Toolbox changed the Unity Message to "METHOD is called by Unity" Which is pretty useless since it does not explain what the method actually does. I'll be using Unity Code Snippets.

Other troubles like ctrl + . (Yellow bulb) for completing ENUM, and creating new method is bad. Ive used vscode from july. I love it

Make sure the .NET Core SDK is installed and is on the path. I have this error although i installed the dotnet sdk. Can you or someone help me to fix this error, please. Thanks for the tutorial. I was having this error: "No installed .NET SDK was found on the computer. If it is installed, make sure it can be found through the PATH environment variable. After lots of research, adding the following line to the user preferences (command + shift + p then type "Open User Settings (JSON)") solved the problem. Hopefully this can help someone having the same issue. Probably something with ohMyZsh initialization time. "application.shellEnvironmentResolutionTimeout": 120

I followed step by step and it works until after downloading the unity extension, because I don't get the "Projects: " message, and the autocomplete doesn't work, any idea of why that might be?

Nevermind it's fixed. For anyone else with this problem: The issue (mine at least) was the .Net SDK. I had a previous version installed (in order for the autocomplete to work before), so I uninstalled it, followed the tutorial, and when I downloaded the Unity addon it gave me a warning message telling me to download a .Net SDK and gave me a link to download it. I downloaded it, followed the tutorial again (I had to uninstall visual studio code for that, boring), and the "Projects: " message was there. Hope it helps! :D

Not on the Macbook M1 (arm64), it keeps on throwing an error that the .NET SDK is not installed, I have to reinstall it every time I re-open VSCode.

@@SanLiukSorry, I wish I had a solution, but so far it's only reinstalling the SDK. The PATHs are setup correctly so I have no idea why it's not being picked up when restarting VSCode.

@@SigmaZer0 I solved. I wrotee on got and it said to write some lines on command line plus restart vs code , unity and Mac . and open c# script from the "asset" on unity. I repeated few times and it worked. now ihave like 4 diferents sdk. and I keep them all!

I cannot remove Visual Studio Code Editor in Unity 2022.3 cause it's a dependency to Engineering package. Still the new editor is used for the script editor.

@@ukaszj2906 Thank you, I actually found out that the package doesn't have to be removed.

I added the extension, but when I test out typing in private void OnTrig.... , it doesn't predict the entire syntax like how it normally would on Visual Studio. When it would predict it, I could press tab and it would autocomplete the code syntax. (private void OnTriggerEnter2D (Collider2D collider) How do I fix this so the prediction thing returns? It was a very useful feature in Visual Studio.

@@surjaBruh Basically there's a bunch of extensions that are similar to it. The autocomplete/predict code feature is called IntelliSense. So you just got to find a good Unity Intellisense extension.

Have you downloaded visual studio Code first? You may need to browse for it in Unity as stated on the video. No need to remove (purple) visual studio

If you want to make vsc have the same features as vs, why do you have to search for many extensions to use the same features? While you just open VS ? I don't understand how many extensions have the same features as vs?? For what? Just use vs. I've never had a problem with it. It really has everything you need. It's super easy.

Why not using the normal Visual Studio ?? is there any different between them ??

In my experience VSStudio is way less customizable (themes, plugins) and has some weird shortcut limitations. Also please keep in mind that Mac version of VSStudio will soon be discontinued, so VSC becomes a real deal for this platform

VS is an IDE which is, by default, fully-integrated to work with languages and engines (e.g. Unity), so it has all the needed feature but at the cost of being heavier, you should probably notice that just opening VS may take a few minutes. VSCode, on the other hand, is basically a text editor that you can insert extensions and plugins to modify it specifically for what you need. It is way lighter than VS, takes a few seconds to open and connect intellisense, but it is not fully integrated for Unity like VS, so niche features like Attach to Unity or setting breakpoints won't be there.

I switched from VS to VSCode initially because of the slow startup time, but then got more comfortable with VSCode because of how customizable it is. Don't like how the default icons look? Download an extension. Don't like any of the existing themes? Download an extension. Need some snippets? Download an extension. Missing a feature you like from VS? Download an extension. There's probably an extension for anything you need out there.

If unity is on Linux then yes the only issue is the distro you chose considering the Linux community refuses to make a standard app model for their software.

Tried it works…. BUT: this is not better than VS. I mean, it doesn’t even autocomplete typing your variable? I think I will uninstall this.

@@CocoCode after some (let’s call it, background thinking) it started doing auto completion for those. I’m trying to get to grips with it but it’s hard to get into a new habit. I can’t see a particular reason switch, other than the thought of jumpin ahead of when they’ll “force” us to switch.

Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code are two different editors. lol :D

Any particular reasons? In my opinion, VSCode has: - better performance and multi-window support - plugin and themes support - better keyboard shortcuts and command palette The Purple/Old Visual Studio is going away soon on Mac (2024) and on Windows it a quite heavy and unresponsive peace of software
