Set-up TD-165.MP4

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

From Vinyl Nirvana, this video describes set-up of a Thorens TD-165 after it arrives in your home. In this case, the table suspension is already tuned and the cartridge geometry is done. The video leads you through releasing the transport screws, assembling the main parts, and setting the tracking force using a Shure Stylus Pressure Gauge.

    Thanks for the demo -- I got the Shure force gauge and turns out my Rega RP6 was a 1/4 gram off what the dial said. Also my bias was pushed in all the way for too much bias. All good now.

    Question about the Thorens anti skate weight: How is the small weight tied onto the monofilament line? Is it just threaded through and uses a knot to stop it or is it tied onto a stopper of some sort. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows...mine fell off the monofilament.

    I see I must have a very early model TD 160 as it doesn't have transport screws, Is there any way I can find out how old it is?

    Hello. I hope you are still active and can answer a question for me. Unfortunately, the manual on Vinyl Engine is only available for already-registered users and I can't access it. For a tracking force of 1.50-1.65 grams, what notches should I use for the anti-skating weight? Thanks again!

    Do you do any videos about using the shim kit you sell? I bought some, but don't have any idea how many to use on a TD165 with a Ortofon 2M Blue cart.

    I have read that it is 6mm, and an easy tip is to use a 6mm drill bit laid on its side to check the distance.

    Depends on the recommended tracking force of the cartridge. 1X is for 0-1.5 grams. 2X is for 1.6-3grams

    Is it ok to mount the original rega rp1 tonearm to the td 166 / 160?

  • @ddarch88

    @ddarch88

    Yes, but some subchassis will need to be cut away. A dremel with metal grinding bit is easiest method, in my opinion

    you didn't show what the weight that hangs off a string does. It's the only reason I came to this video because I'm wondering what that does? Seems like a weight on a piece of string is more of a marketing gimmick than something necesary. You could just have a fixed weight that moved up and on a similar arm. It doesn't need to be on a string where the wind or something could mess with it.

    ***** Go to Vinyl Engine, join (it's free) and the manual for the TD-165 is there in the "Library." The anti-skate/bias is described there. Anti-skate setting is VERY important as it counteracts the natural tendency of the tonearm to want to swing outward as it plays.

    ddarch88 I am lost with anti-skating as well. I've got a TD 145 and have reviewed the vinyl engine manual but don't understand how to properly set this up with my Shure SC35C stylus. Any chance you can shed some light or links? Thanks!
