Service Dog Alerts Mom Misses Alert

Service Dog Alerts Mom Misses Alert. Service Dog Pipsie tried so hard to tell me some was wrong! A few months prior to this I was frequently tired and had headaches. Updating my epilepsy meds stopped the seizures and Service Dog Pipsie stopped alerting as often. I didn't get him an epilepsy alert dog but it sure is nice to know that my service dog has my back.

For clarification... Pipsie was trained as a mobility service dog. He was trained to retrieve dropped items, balance, counter balance and go get human help when I fall. He began alerting to blood sugar issues several months after he arrived. Since my epilepsy has been stable for over a decade, I had no reason to suspect seizures. So, when he alerted and the nerve in my leg wasn't acting up I checked blood sugar, O2 sats and blood pressure every time. All those were okay. Seizure activity didn't occur to me.

Animals are incredible. Most people having absent seizures or other specific types of seizures that can mimic consciousness in appearance but do not have any extreme physical premonitive sensations (unlike the “aura” prior to a seizure sometimes described by people living with epilepsy) nor any of the common postictal symptoms, they can be completely unaware that there’s any atypical brain activity going on. But animals are so sensitive they can tell when something is wrong. God bless you and this amazing pup, he is such a good boy. I’m glad you were able to get it addressed and are feeling better! And he’s probably much happier now, too, knowing that you know, and can tell you’re being treated for the issue because you’re improving! Dogs truly are unbelievably unique animals because it’s in their DNA to love us. We hardly deserve them, but where would we be without ‘em?

I agree with you completely. It's incredible that he picked up on what was happening. Until now my seizures have been grand mals. Seizure activity never entered my mind because of that. Plus, it was the holidays when there's a lot going on anyway. I'm so grateful that my neurologist's appointment was at the first of the year and to have my sweet dog. He is much happier now that my seizures are controlled again. 🐕 🦴 🌴

Thank you. I appreciate that. I have grand mal seizures so symptoms of being tired and scattered (during the holidays) caught me off guard.

You send a dog to school to teach it how to alert you when you are having a problem. Then you ignore her alerts. DUH! why have an alert dog. Just wait for a memo.

If you actually watched the video She didn't know WHAT was wrong so she assumed it was all good, since the dog kept alerting she realized she needed to get checked While it's very uncommon, it does happen that service dogs can also make mistakes and it's hard to tell when you feel entirely normal If the dog did it once and then stopped then it could've just been a fluke, but since he kept persisting ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭

@aboothesmol she totally ignored the dog. She saw no.reason for an alert and it doesn't say she went to the doctor because the dog persistently alerted. It says at a visit she discovered she had a problem. Bless the dog!!!

I didn't totally ignore the dog. I checked everything I could think of to check. It was all normal. I have grand mal seizures so tired and scattered aren't my typical symptoms.
